Unfortunately we only had a short time to visit this park on our way between destinations and it had snowed the night before. So, instead of seeing all the sand and the contrast in scenery with the mountains we saw snow covered sand and low clouds. The creek was still frozen over so we missed out on that too. The Sand Dunes were fantastic, I could not believe I was in Colorado! The staff was very nice, helpful, knowledgable and the visitorcenter/facilities were very clean. This park is simply wonderful. Only by the strange twists of nature do places like this not only come to exist, but thrive. The park and campground are very nice. The dunes are amazing. The only downfall is that in the spring wind blows all the time and blows hard. I highly recommend the Great Sand Dunes National Park. They are absolutely amazing to see, hundreds and hundreds of feet high, nestled between praire and mountains.
