My husband & I took a 3 week trip June 2011. Looking at the route we were going to take, I noticed on the map that near Deer Lodge, Montana there was a National Historic Site called Grant-Kohrs Ranch. We have traveled to Montana quite a few times, never knew about this place. I looked up the web site and... More

This is a piece of ranching history not to be missed. At 1600 acres, you can get a feel of what life was like on a working ranch. The ranch house is AMAZING! Beautifully restored on the first level, the interior of the home is stunning. I went in the winter, so I didn't get to experience the various programs... More

It is truly amazing you can spend all day for free! Still a working ranch,(ask when they will bring the cattle in as you can see it and the real cowboys!)The grounds are well kept, the house is so amazing and in tact exactly as it was although they need more donation help with repairs to the upper floor which... It seems like the specialty of this site is the number of different activities going on, and it's a good family option More

We happened to stop on a weekend that they were holding harvesting demonstrations. We saw the 'beaver slide' working, the blacksmith, the camp cook. Living history. Easy access off the interstate, i recommend wondering the grounds and don't forget to tour the ranch house. More

I discovered by accident and am glad I did. It is located just off the interestate in Deer Lodge MT. Initially you only see a small building with a chuck wagon and tent pitched nearby. But after getting the introduction from the ranger we walked to the house and ranch located on the other side of the railroad tracks. Turned... More

Our family really enjoys the events during Ranch Days at Grant-Kohrs Ranch in July and we go often. The festivities include living history demonstrations, cowboys branding calves, pioneer games for kids, haying with horses, tours of the historic ranch house, live music in the flower garden, and railroad scooter rides along the old Milwaukee Railroad. The clang of steel on... More

We visited while travelling on I90 across Montana just to take a short break. We were so glad we stopped because this ranch is a gem. We had a very personalized tour and our guide was exceptional in his knowledge and enthusiasm. There were only 5 in our group so it was great and we learned so much about the... More

The location is a historic cattle ranch - once owned by the Kohrs family. The location is run by the National Park Service - the staff is well informed and knowledgable of the ranch. There are several locations to see and ask questions about Ranch life and Cattle Drives throughout the site. I found the staff to be very knowledgable,... More
