Glen Canyon Dam is a very unique and worthwhile visit! Located just a mile or two from Page, Az it is easily accessible and is definately worth the 2 minute drive from Page! The Glen Canyon Dam is comparable in size to Hoover Dam (GC is ~16 feet shorter, but 300 feet wider). However, I found that the Hoover Dam seems much more visually impressive (perhaps the viewing angles play a role). Having already done the pricey tour of the Hoover Dam, I had heard from many people that I would also enjoy the Glen Canyon Dam tour with its much better price….free! The visitor's center offers three movies (15 min each) shown pretty much continuously in its small auditorium which give a great overview of the construction of the dam, the environmental issues it created and desert habitat. You can sign up for one of the free tours offered each hour by the Historical Society volunteers which will take you down into... more

We went on the tour on August 4, 2006. You have to go to the counter and sign up for a specific time. We went at 10am. Me, my husband and 15 yr old daughter.
