Especially great for kids that are interested in the junior ranger programs at the national parks. My first time seeing a dam and the comparison of glen canyon to other US dams was educational and impressive. I thought Hoover was the biggest and best but not true! Didn't get to do the tour due to the weather so that was... More

This would be the second time I visit this dam. The dam was impressive and huge! Just a bit smaller than the Hoover Dam. The bridge was also impressive. Stop by the Carl Hayden visitor center for all the information about the dam and the bridge. There is a large circular room with views of the dam and bridge, and... More

Glen Canyon dam is essential for water for many states in the region. Many cities would dry up and evaporate without this dam. It also produces a great deal of hydro-electric power. Lake Powell offers many recreational options not available within many hours of this site. The guides are very well-prepared and can answer nearly any question. There are security checks,... More

Stopping at the Glen Canyon Dam was a bonus during our tour of the canyons. We walked the bridge across the Colorado River, a great experience. Great views on both sides! ... the dam on one side... and the awesome canyon on the other! There are little openings along the bridge's outside fencing to take unobscurred pictures of either side,... For the most comprehensive overview of Glen Canyon, this is a very important stop. It is a very well equipped and park ranger manned facility with great viewing windows to all the activities adjacent to the visitor center. It is here that you can arrange for a 45 minute tour of the dam and obtain the Glen Canyon info sheet,... More

If heading from Page to the Dam visitors center, go to the Overlook before you cross the River . It's tucked behind the Glen Canyon NPS HQ. Walk down the short steep path...the views of the Dam and the Colorado River are amazing here. Then cross the River and sign up for the Dam tour. You have to pass through... More

If you are visiting near Lake Powell, it only make sense to see the dam that created Lake Powell in the first place. The visitor's center offers exhibits which explains the development of the dam and shows free short movies throughout the day.

The tours were all booked when we got there but walking around the observation deck and reading the background on the dam was very interesting. The panoramic views are awesome!!!

We stopped at Glen Canyon Dam on our way to the Lake Powell Resort. The visitor's center is excellent with a wonderful topographical map and museum. Take the tour of the dam. Well worth it.

The information I learned at the visitor center about how the dam was built and it's history was very interesting and there was a ranger there to answer questions and give information. The visitor center was clean, had a gift shop and friendly assistants.
