Stephen and Annette guided 4 of us on a 4.5 day, custom kayaking trip up the East Arm of Glacier Bay. From the first email enquiry, we couldn't have been happier with Spirit Walker. Stephen was incredibly thoughtful and helpful coming up with a great itinerary for us, despite the fact we could only take the trip after the end... More

As a life-long Alaskan, and another participant on this particular adventure, I do still wonder if the tidal surge wasn't part of a glacial event. I have never seen the tide work so quickly that it leaves shrimp stranded for harvesting! And the six-mile face of the Hubbard Glacier is a very active backdrop, constantly dropping whole cliffs of ice... More

Thank you for paddling with Spirit Walker in Russell Fjord, and offering your life-long Alaskan perspective on the adventure! You're absolutely right: a remote wilderness expedition has an element of unpredictability. Thank you for acknowledging that your guide was professional, patient, and flexible in the face of unpredictable conditions. We make sure our guides have the necessary training, experience, and... I and my kayaking companions have traveled extensively all over the world, and the three of us agreed that we know when magic happens. Such was the case during our weeklong adventure along Chichagof Island with Spirit Walker Expeditions, and our guide, Jessi. Our trip was extremely well-organized, the equipment superb, and our guide was very knowledgeable about the wildlife,... More

We have spent a 5 days trip "Whales" in August 2014. The trip was wonderful: very nice guides and cooks: Liz, Emily and David. We felt very comfortable: fun, wildlife viewing, rest, meals. We have seen whales (in the kayak and from the camp), sea otters, sea lion, deer. By night, we have admired bioluminescence. The weather was incredible! All was incredible! There... More

Thank you so much for paddling with Spirit Walker this summer, and writing about the highlights of your trip. How lucky to have seen bioluminescence - and really appreciate all that Alaska has to offer - big and small! It's wonderful to hear you're thinking about another kayaking trip with Spirit Walker. We look forward to paddling with you again! More

After researching “adventure” companies that could take us on a sea kayaking trip, we unfortunately chose Spirit Walker Expeditions. Summary of the trip to the Russell Fjord: 1) Our guide, having told us she had been in the area once before, lacked the experience level required to lead a group into a very remote location. Based on the guide’s direction,... More

Providing guests with exceptional wilderness experiences has been Spirit Walker Expeditions’ top priority since 1988.  A “sub-standard” experience is a big concern for us and we take each of the reviewer’s comments seriously.    Even prior to this review Spirit Walker had done a full assessment of the trip and is making changes that will address many of the reported... Went on a Whale Watching Day Trip in late August. The kayaking was easier than I thought it would be. We saw a lot of spectacular scenery and wildlife including whales, seals, sea lions, etc. The guide (Jessi) was wonderful.

Thank you for reviewing your Whales! Day Trip with Spirit Walker Expeditions, and I'm glad you had such a memorable (and easy!) day of kayaking. We had a wonderful 7 day wilderness kayak trip leading to the Hubbard glacier in the Russell Fjord outside of Gustavus. The small plane ride to the fjord was spectacular. We were led by 2 phenomenal guides who were not only exceptional in their leadership/kayak/camping skills but extremely knowledgeable naturalists as well. They were a wealth of information and all... Took a day trip with Spirit Walker Expedition in early August. Our group included a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. The group ranged in age from mid-twenties to nearly 70. We departed Gustavus dock about 10:30 and returned about 4. Our guide was very professional. Our group exchanged addresses when we returned from a very fun day. Spirit Walker... More

Thank you for paddling with Spirit Walker at Point Adolphus on such a surreal day! Listening to the Humpback whales is one of my favorite aspects of any trip there. I agree: if you want to get a real taste of Southeast Alaska you must get out on the water! If you make it back to Alaska, we look forward... More

We did a three day / two night Whales trip as a family (two adults and two kids aged five and seven) in June 2013. I quickly run out of superlatives to describe this trip. A friend and I went to alaska to sea kayak with humpbacks and just enjoy the wilderness and wildlife of alaska. The campsites were beautiful, the whales were everywhere, our guide, Stephen, was organized, thoughtful, safe and downright fun to be around. We had scary (bear), exciting (whales) and silly fun (otters, jumping salmon and seals) moments. Through them all... More
