I was expecting another so-so trip on a paddle boat, but this one has things for you to see. A sea plane take-off & landing (makes great pictures), how salmon are caught by the eskimos, A landing where you can see some of the eskimos dress, living quarters, & animals. The sled dogs were a favor of all. If you... More

This tour was a great beginning to a lengthy Alaska vacation. The athabaskan village was very interesting as was the sled dog demonstration. The only "down" part was that the "Miners Stew" needed at least a couple of more hours cooking time. Picked up some very helpful travel tips from the reigning iditarod champion for a (hopefully) winter visit to... More

Of the 4 main activities and attractions we did while in Alaska in early September (Riverboat Discovery, shuttle into Denali NP, glacier hike, and glacier cruise), this would probably rank as number four. But that is not to say it was not worthwhile. It was just a much more tourist-oriented experience than the other activities. The riverboat ride itself was... More

This is a wonderful tour to get an insight into part of the history of Alaska and we especially enjoyed the local Eskimo village and cultural tour. They tour leaders were excellent and were very knowledgable and entertaining. Well worth the money.

We drove up from Talkeetna for this, about a 2 hr ride. It cost about $60 each for a 3 hour experience. The boat ride is not that long, but what you see is very interesting. We saw a float plane land on the river, part of the show; we saw and heard about sled dogs and their training and we... More

This was part of a land/cruise tour. Since it was end of the season it wasn't crowded and easy to move around. Spacious interior with seats that had good views and easy access to the outside deck area. The narrative was mostly a canned script but entertaining and personalized for the audience. Lots of things to see. Enjoyed the landing... More

Overall this tour was relatively affordable and you got to "experience" a lot of Alaskan culture in one tour. The older folks in our group particularly enjoyed this riverboat cruise. I personally would have liked to have spent more time cursing up and down the river - I felt the time was on the boat a little short as we... More

We really enjoyed this tour which was part of our Princess tour. We thought it would be hokey, but it was not at all. We went at the end of the season so the boat wasn't full and it was easy to get a good seat. I loved hearing stories about the people who live along the river, and seeing... More

This was part of our Princess cruise package otherwise we would have skipped it. Caribou are left out of the fenced yard so the riverboat riders can see them. Float plane landing, dog musher were waiting on the banks for all to see. The narrative was heard to hear and understand. Don't make a special trip to see this.

This was part of our Land + Sea Holland America Cruise, they booked it for us. My husband and I were debating on whether to go or not, we've been on these boats before. So glad we went! The trip down the river was presented in such a way that you as as a tourist can really understand how people... More
