This is a beautiful home which is furnished with all the artist and his wife's furniture and collectibles. Melchers' art is displayed in a spacious gallery on the grounds. There are some beautiful paintings at Belmont and it was a very enjoyable visit. The gallery was a little musty smelling and it was good to get outside and smell fresh air after the visit.

The studio and tour of the house transported us back to the 20th century. Our guide was fantastic adding tidbits of valuable information. Well worth the time and expense.

This visit was two years ago, and was the 2nd visit in about 10 years. A worthwhile, and strongly encouraged thing to do while in Fredericksburg. A not-well-known American artist to me, the tour was great and enlightening too.

None of us were originally too excited to stop here (three in our 20's, 2 in their 60's), but it was included in our 24-hour museums/historic sites pass of Fredericksburg attrations (stop in the Visitor's Center to get it around 10/11am to fit in the most stops). I knew little about the place before my visit. It is a lovely old estate with beautiful art and grounds. It's a great place to meander about and spend a morning or afternoon. Very easy access from I-95. Go!

This is a beautiful, historic home filled with beautiful antiques and art. The docents were very informative, knowledgeable and helpful. We loved discovering an American artist we were unfamiliar with.
