My husband and I visited the cemetery and it is breath taking. It was very special to see how well kept the final resting place of so many brave men and women is. It is a true resting place for such heroes and you should just stop by when in town.

This cemetery is immaculately kept as it should be in honor of those who have served. Each December, thousands of volunteers help decorate the cemetery by placing a wreath on EVERY headstone. That is over 15,000. It's a beautiful sight and a very moving experience.

If you are in Fort Smith and only have time for one thing, let me recommend this fine National Cemetery. It will not take you a long time - in fact you don't even have to leave your air conditioned car although I would recommend a walk among the tombstones to better understand the sacrifices made by the hero's buried... All outdoors which is normal. Easy access near the Fort Smith museum so the two are easily combined into one day. Having a registry of what sections contain which war the veterans served would be helpful. However, a somber walk thru the cemetary provides a view of history along with expansion areas.

I return here often; I have friends here. The National Cemetery at Ft. Smith is very well taken care of. When my friend was buried there, the local JROTC supplied an honor guard. The funeral was as well done as could be done for a none active duty funeral. I say THANKS again to the staff at the Fort Smith... More

While touring the historic sites of downtown Fort Smith, don't overlook the National Cemetery. Even if you have no relatives there, take a moment to consider the rows of alabaster stones set upon the backdrop of manicured deep green grass representing the many who have served this nation. Ecclesiastes 7:2 reminds us: "It is better to go to a house... More

I never like going to cemeteries, but both my parents[father and mother]are buried here. I also have an older brother that is laid to rest here. It is a very well maintained place and just a awesome place to visit. I think the best way to view it is to just park at the front and take a walking tour.... More

What a beautiful place! If you are in the area do not hesitate to visit here. You have to be in awe of the brave souls that are laid to rest here when you visit. May they all rest in peace.
