The museum was full of relics and artifacts from the old west (when Ft. Smith was the last outpost). Several levels of history and the folks are very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The Hanging Judge has his little niche too. Beautiful old building and located close to restaurants and several venues for shopping. Tons of information and the kids loved... More

This museum has a lot of local history, especially the history of the 1800's when Fort Smith was a frontier town and a jumping off point for people heading out west, along with history of the presence of both white settlers and native Americans in the area. It also covers the local area during the Civil War and during the... More

This Museum is full of the item that made this river town famous. A turn of the century ice cream parlor to a fire truck, Judge Parkers 2nd court room city and items from around the area. Just got to visit.

This town museum is just full of the history of the area. There are so many original items in the exhibits. Take your time and see both floors at an easy pace. It is worth the time. Downstairs is the timeline exhibit beginning eons ago up to the 1970s or so. There are exhibits dealing with the Civil War and... More

For being a small Museum it covered the Mid 1800s to the 1970s with a nice section on the African American contributions to the growth of the city and the surrounding area.

We stopped here to visit their Old Fashioned Soda Fountain - not many of those left. I felt this wasn't a true Soda Fountain but a mock up display. A true soda Fountain has seating along the counter. The ice cream was expensive, as expected. The display rack against one entire was was completely empty. The worker said the director... More
