We attended a birthday party at the fort and it was very nice. The fort itself looks good. Work is ongoing with the restoration, but the walls, moat, magazines are nice. The ramparts look out over the river and there are a few cannon in place. The cannon firing exhibition uses one of those cannon. You can go outside the... More

It was a beautiful day to visit the Fort. We arrived just as the big cannon was shot off and as a group of 275 school children were leaving! It was very interesting self-guided tour.

It sounds like you arrived in time to see our original 1824 32lb. cannon fired. we do not usually fire this during the day so we're thrilled you were able to watch the demonstration. Thank you for visiting. More

The best part about this fort was the guide, who was dressed in Civil War attire, and who stayed in character throughout his explanation of the fort and the guns and cannon contained therein. He was very knowledgable about the many routes taken by ships, soldiers, and sailors intent upon capturing Savannah. And he clearly loves his job!

After reading your review I am having a hard time trying to determine which interpreter you may have enjoyed. They all do a wonderful job and and I'm thrilled that his enjoyment came across to you and other visitors. Thank you very much for sharing these comments with us. More

We visited this fort on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at about 3:00pm in the afternoon. There were only two other cars in the parking lot when we arrived – that should have been a clue. Admission is $7 per person, so it cost us $21 to get in – I wish I had that $21 back!! This fort is NOT... More

Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts with everyone. I apologize for the bad experience you had while at the fort. You are correct that we are not a part of the National Park Service; we are operated by the non profit Coastal Heritage Society. As a non profit, we take your feedback very seriously, so thank you again... More

If you like history, you'll enjoy Old Fort Jackson. The fort played a role in both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Don't miss the video and the displays in the small rooms under the fort walls. We didn't stay for the cannon firing, but I think it's at 10 and 2. We enjoyed the view of the ships... More

Our 8 y/o son does not like history, but this place taught him history without him realizing it, or at least, caring! We made sure to show up at the time for the cannon firing and the narrator told us the history of the fort and got several children involved prior to the firing of the cannon; we had a... More

A lot of our visitors are history buffs so it is very rewarding to hear how your son enjoyed the programming at the fort. We take great pride in involving the kids as well as adults in our programming. It is one thing to tell a child about how to load a cannon but much more fun for them if... More

Attended my most favorite event ever there on Saturday...a wonderful venue for a special party or wedding. Beautiful water views, great historical sites, and lovely interior of the fort for receptions, etc. Staff was wonderfully helpful. I look forward to being back in Savannah again and plan to pack a picnic basket for a wonderful lunch on the grounds. Thanks... More
