I read there are 80,00 tulips planted in this garden each year. They must have all been in bloom on April 3 when we were there. it is a beautiful sight to see and many families were there enjoying the day with their children and pets and having picnic lunches on the grass. I grew up a couple of miles from the gardens. Every spring my sister and I would go there to see the flowers. And climb the trees which was expressly forbidden!!!

Always a great place to spend some time in the middle of the day. The flower beds are a delight. The only problemmight be finding some place to park within a block or two.

It takes some patience to locate the gardens amid the surrounding mansions, but it is a serene and lovely spot. Watch out for crowds during tulip time, but it is worth dealing with the traffic to see the thousands of tulips in beds behind the Sherwood mansion.
