For all those looking to expose kids to art in a fun and interesting way or just appreciate that art can also be fun, this is the place. There are tons of exhibits that use everyday medium (paper plates, yards sticks, papercups, logs, toothpicks) to create beautiful and fascinating art. There is even a piece called "Fart Art", located appropriately... More

Rule #1 - Do not underestimate the amount of time required to view the museum This is a whole day affair - we spent 5 hours and we skipped a great deal Rule #2 - The Gift shop is a museum in and of itself Rule #3 - No Photography (drats !!!) - This is a bummer because there are... More

What an unusual museum. I don't know how to even describe what would qualify as visionary art, but after having visited, I think I would know it when I see it. The main building has two floors of art. The third floor has a restaurant. Even in the areas where you don't expect it, there's art. Near the bathrooms on... More

Unlike anything you've ever seen! The selections at the AVAM are all from self taught artists who truly have a passion for what they do. The museum has some of the most visually stunning pieces I have ever encountered. The AVAM is a treasure to the city of Baltimore! A must see experience!

A wonderful, unique place to visit yourself and with out of town guests. The gift shop is wonderful (lots of novelty items). I try to visit this museum at least once a year, and I am NOT a museum-goer.

The American Visionary Art Museum is a worthwhile way to spend an afternoon. All of the art is made by people without formal arts degrees. The art can be made by anyone from very talented self trained artists to mental patients. This results in a very eclectic and wildly colorful assortment of art. The exhibits are very intriguing and I... More

We go down most MLK "Everybody's Free" days to check out the latest exhibits and rotation of the Museum's permanent collection. While some of the artwork has been fantastically horrific, other pieces just make you smile. Like this season's featured marble maze "tours' of a toothpick sculputured San Francisco, or the permanent "Ball of Bras" with some comments from the... More

This is my favorite art museum of all times. You have to go each time they change an exhibit. It is a whimsical look into the creative mind. Artists from every walk of life that create with everything imaginable. The art is accompanied with a fascinating bio piece on the artist so you get the art and a slice of... More
