ASOC got it's start with a locally written and produced classic musical melodrama "Shanghied In Astoria" which is performed each year to packed houses. Locals rarely miss it.

We will definitely go see Shanghaied again! I don't think we stopped laughing the whole night. The actors are so fun to watch and interact with. Lots of popcorn throwing, yelling, and good fun for everyone.

This is one of the most enjoyable plays you will ever see. I love how they get the aduiance involved in each act. The best part is throwig popcore at the Villians. A must see play. You will laugh till it hurts.

An interactive, musical, melodrama loosely based on events in Old Astoria. This 3 act play is fun for the whole family. Where else can kids (and adults) throw popcorn at the actors. I have seen Shangaied about 20 times and each time it is a little different. This is a unique part of Astoria. If you don't go you are... More

I love this musical!!! I can't till next year to see it. The actors change characters every once in a while, so each performance is different. The whole thing is like the Rocky Horror Show nights in PDX with tons of audience participation and popcorn throwing. Good price beer makes the musical that much more fun.

We just saw "Scrooged in Astoria" and had the greatest time. The production is a parody of Dicken's A Christmas Carol using long established and well known characters from other Astor Creek Opry productions. They interject plugs for their local sponsors and advertisers into the dialogue, as well as some jokes about contemporary figures. The whole thing feels very Vaudevillian.... More

Far and away best production is the totally hilarious "Shanghied in Astoria" based somewhat loosely on the real history of Astoria. Scandinavians belting away that the moon shines brighter in Astoria! If not already, this must be on your things to see and do in Astoria!! Be prepared to laugh and throw pop corn at the villans in this melodrama!

All local actors, looking for ward to a 30th anniversary in 2014... it should be a banner season. The Astor Street Opry Company has other productions through out the year... check... More

“Shipwrecked in Astoria” is a musical melodrama that comes alive with a lot of humor and music that are very entertaining, very enlightening and – I think I can say – very Astoria. My group of thirteen ranged in age from 5 to 65, and we all enjoyed this performance. The small theatre provided an intimate atmosphere, and young members... More
