We spent a few hours wandering through this museum and enjoying the creative, multi-media and physical artifact content. They even have an interactive area for kids that featured the choice of several hands-on learning opportunities. (for kids of all ages! I enjoyed making a fish-rubbing too.) And the tour of the lightship Columbia was included - and simply fascinating too.... More

Part of the visit here is taken up just looking at the views from their windows. Interesting architecture. Plenty of exhibits to see, including interactive, that cover the history of Columbia River and Maritime activities in the area. Large display on maps and charts was fascinating.

I went to the Columbia River Maritime museum over 25 years ago, this review won't let me put the date that it was. However, I remember it as very interesting and informative. The trip I was on was my first contact with the ocean and our stop at the museum helped instill in me a love for the ocean and... More

There is so much history associate with the Columbia Bar. You will learn about the Coast Guard (rescues) and the amazing work they & the Bar Pilots (who shepherd each ship across the bar) do each day. the history of the early settlers, the ships, the entire Northcoast area. There are exhibits, 3D movies. a good sized gift shop. Well... More

People cruise past Astoria on the way to the beach. However, this museum is a class act and very modern and professional. You'll learn lots as there are multiple themes of history, Coast Guard, industry, etc. Very nice exhibits.. Highly recommend taking the time to stop. It's at least worth 2 hours if not 4+.

Great place! The Columbia Lightship was amazing. The tour guide answered our questions and was very friendly. Not sure we would go back as we have seen it all. A must stop if you have time.

Have been here 3 times. Fascinating exhibits focused on navigating the treacherous mouth of the Columbia River to the Pacific. Develop an appreciation for the massive forces, in opposition, as a mighty river confronts an incoming ocean. The short film depicting the work of the specialized "Bar Pilots" who bring ocean going vessels into the river over the bar is... More

The museum was the reason for our visit to Astoria and we weren't disappointed. Our only regret is we didn't have a chance to tour the lightship Columbia. Next time!

Awesome, awesome museum! So much to see...History of fishing in the area, naval history, etc. I'm not really a boats guy at all, but I love history and this place is so well put together.
