This is a great hike especially if you have kids over the age of five. You can take them down by the march and have a picnic way of the beaten path under shaded trees with spanish moss beards. The blue trail is where I mainly stayed with my two year old.
I try to hike here whenever I am in Jacksonville. The city is very fortunate to have a resource like this within the urban area. There are many things to enjoy about it:
1. Varied terrain. Unusual in this coastal area, but the result of the fact that much of the site is a pre-European shell midden (or landfill). In...

Come, walk and enjoy - this is a North Florida gem. Bring the kids or the dog(s), but don't miss the views and feeling of history surrounding your every step. It's part of the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve - a must see! And, Willie Browne was quite a character!
Nice trails that are fairly well marked. One area was great for bird watching. Interesting history of the area
There are many hills, scenic overlooks. We owe a tremendous debt to Willie Browne who owned and lived here. Adjacent to the Fort Caroline. Moderate hike

Plus there are usually little fiddler crabs by the bay to watch. Remember to bring your bug spray and there are times when parts...

A fantastic blazed trail system.
An amazing view from the 360 degree lookout. The topography is varied (nice for us flat landers) Picnic tables on restrooms available at trailhead
Remnants of prehistoric Indian oyster-shell mounds (normally roped off at other locations)
Old family cemetary and cabin site as well as a civil war grave (you will have to look for...

If you'd like to see the "real Florida", this is a good place to hike. The trail from the parking lot off Mt. Pleasant Rd. is only about a half mile to where the original owner of the land lived. You can see the remains of his cabin, and if you choose, visit his gravesite at the little cemetery inside....

This was probably the best hike I've made in the Jackosnville area. The walk was moderate with a few small elevation changes... just enough to get the heart working a little harder but not actually strenuous. I've been hiking in Florida for several years and I saw more biodiversity and areas of interest on this walk than in that just...
