The land for this park was donated by an old fellow who grew up there and continued to live on the property in a little shack without electric and water. Remnants of the cabin and his family cemetery plot is there. It offers great walking trails that run up and down hills, along the marsh and river. They are well... More

This area is located Arlington and is not far from the Fort Caroline Monument and museum. This is a nice place to ride your bike (trails limited), a pleasant walk or run or a place to take your dog. Located on the bluffs overlooking the salt marsh and in places the St. Johns River, the views are scenic to say... More

Simple place to enjoy primitive Florida nature. Well worth a visit and a long hike to the St. John's River and back.

It was hot, humid, and there were lots of mosquitos, but we were prepared for all that when we decided to go hiking in August in Florida. We saw a couple of gopher tortoises (endangered, so don't touch), lots of birds, dragonflies, and spiders. The hike was easy, there were several benches scattered strategically, and the maps were--except for one... More

We don't make it over to the Teddy Roosevelt Area as often now that we live on the other side of town, but it's one of our favorite quick escapes. As others have noted, the bugs can be vicious, just like anywhere in Florida. Be sure to check for ticks when you get home! The view from the observation platform... More

We thought we were going to take a great walk in the woods, but ended up with a great hike in the middle of our 3 miles in 90 minutes (we stopped to take pics and visited the cemetery). We went in January, so no mosquitoes. We started on the Spanish Moss Trail, went on the black trail to the... More

Theodore Roosevelt Nature Park is on the St. John's River. There are a few paths from the parking area that will lead you on a 1.5 mile loop out to the river and a tower to climb for a beautiful view of the marshes. You will pass an old historic foundation for Brown's cabin and family cemetery. We have done... More

By acreage, the Theodore Roosevelt Area is one of two main units of the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve. It is a 600-acre area of hardwood forest, wetlands, and scrub vegetation. It is also rich in cultural history. It was a gift from William “Willie” Browne III in 1990. There are a number of hiking trails that connect to other... More

bring bug repellant and water,as none available on trip.otherwise very enjoyable hike. The trails are about two miles long one way, winding and a bit rough in some areas, but there are benches along the way to rest and rehydrate. Although if you don't have bug repellant on, these bench stops are just feeding stops for bugs.

Love Love Love this part of the Timucuan Preserve! The history of this place and the things you can see on the Willie Brown trail is great....and we always thank Mr. Willie for the great gift he left to the people of Jacksonville
