On the recommendation of others on TA, we reserved a three hour tour of the battlefields with a licensed guide. Our tour today was fantastic and brought the entire battle to light. My husband, the history buff, just loved it. Some details tha might be helpful: Do reserve in advance to get the best choice of times. I waited until... More

My husband and I stayed in Gettysburg over the President's Day/Valentine's Day weekend in February 2015. I always visit TripAdvisor prior to visiting/staying at any locale, and the reviews suggesting the Association of Licensed Battlefield Guides did not disappoint! I had read the reviews stating that it would be possible to have a private tour of the battlefield with a... More

Overall the tour was great, but I got the feeling that they assign the more entertaining tour guides to the bus tours. You can see how energetic they are with the larger groups at the various sites you will visit. If you get a personal guide to ride in your car with you, first they ask if they can drive... More

What an amazing guide. Well worth it. Thank you for all the extra attention. I wasn't sure what to expect but Joe was awesome and knew just what we would be interested in.

Don't spend your money on a bus tour with no personalized interaction with someone who really knows the Battle at Gettysburg, or even taking the self-guide auto tour. You will miss so much. The guide will drive your car for you, stopping at key points, answering any questions you have. You will also travel through the town of Gettysburg with... More

If you are traveling to Gettysburg to tour the battlefield it is well worth it to hire a guide through the park service. These are all private contractors so you get a personal description of the events. It is not a memorized speech you get at an amusement park, but a historians detailed description of the actual events. In our... More

The tour guides have so much information to share even information beyond the Civil War. I would recommend a minimum of 3 hours, we had only booked 2 hours and we were rushed.

Seeing the battlefield is moving, but the stories let you visualize the tragic and historic events. Seeing the battlefield from each pivotal view, with the names and stories to understand. Our guide, Chuck, had the most amazing stories, like how the eternal flame inspired Jackie Kennedy to add an eternal flame to JFK's memorial.

These guides (we had two) are very well studied and extremely knowledgable. Highly recommend having a Licensed Battlefield Guide to give your Gettysburg experience a real learing experience.

In my humble opinion this is the only way to truly experience the battlefield. The guides will drive and point out everything and stop and give the history of what was happening and when it happened during the battle. Especially great with a group for more value. I would choose at least a 3 hour tour for history buffs. Plenty... More
