We were in Philadelphia on business and learned Curtis Institute Opera was performing Tchaikovsky's seldom-performed "Iolante" in a concert version, so we ordered tickets. The performance was beautiful in every way - musically superb, with fantastic singers who brought the fairy tale story to life, and a highly skilled student orchestra. Although it wasn't fully staged, there was enough movement,... More

Housed in two converted adjoining mansions as well as a number of other nearby buildings, Curtis Institute is a world class educational institution. It is terrific to be able to enjoy free performances by the students who are all near the top of their field despite still being considered students. Arrive at least 1/2 hour early to be sure to... The Curtis Institute was founded by the Curtis family, owners and publishers, among other things, of the Saturday Evening Post. there is NO other music institution in the world like Curtis ! Walking into this building, one feels HOME. It is amazing, that best of best musicians came out of this Institude. but it feels so comforting , cozy, not snoby, filled with love.

People who live in Philadelphia rightly believe that the Curtis Institute trains the finest musicians in the US. Students attend on full scholarships and come from all over the world. They are required to hone their skills by giving regular performances and they do it three times a week (usually) during the school year. The Institute is right on Rittenhouse... More

What a gift to sit in an elegant old-world performance hall, listening to the talented & classically trained young musicians at the Curtis - free of charge! The frequent concerts at Curtis afford students a showcase for their remarkable skills, while offering fortunate patrons the opportunity to savor lesser known classical pieces in an intimate setting. Recently we were accompanied... More

Today we had the pleasure of see lecture and recital of music form Puccini's opera La Boheme. I brought my niece who is 16 and never experienced opera before. She loved it. The host Micheal Bolton did such a wonderful job of telling this tale of two best friends in love.

Who knew, a free concert on a Friday night. The Curtis institute students presented a free concert, including an original piece written by one of the students. This was really fantastic, when in Philly, check out their schedule to see if you are lucky enough to be in town when they are having a concert.
