The children were given a flag to fill with stars. When they find a bench they sit and an interpreter tells a story about someone who lived in Philadelphia in the late 1700's and what life was like.

We were amazed that this program is docent led. All you have to do is sit down on a bench when a storyteller is present and they will immediately tell you something about the history in that particular area through storytelling. I believe this is fast becoming a lost art. While the children all seemed to enjoy it, it was... More

Reserved a tour for a group of 50 students, from China, to Once Upon a Nation. Only 8 students arrived from China. (OUaN already knows who I am, lol) The hard-working folks, at this NON- profit, researched China I the late 18th century to create a relevant experience AND created guide sheets in Mandarin, to assist the students. Despite the... More

These storytelling benches were wonderful! My kids (ages 4-12) all enjoyed it. The caliber of the storytellers is high and our visit to Philly was enhanced by listening. Highly recommend for kids AND adults.

We came upon the story telling benches by accident. We bought a few sandwiches and were looking for a place to sit in the park. We cam across this individual in the park sitting on a semi-circle bench and decided to join him - only to be told a delightful story. This was quite enjoyable and after learning more we... More

I thought these benches were so fun and those telling stories did SUCH A GREAT JOB!!! The story tellers were very kind and helpful (about everything Philadelphia) and their stories were "off the beaten path"...interesting stories that you might not already be familiar with. Each story teller had such a flair for telling stories that I am sure there is... More

The history. The storytellers are in period costume and entertain all with nice moments to sit and hear events that happened in that location.

My family has gone to the story benches for years. Every summer we go to the historic area and tour the sights. One year we tried to hit all 13 story benches. We JUST made it, but it is not recommended. The actors/storytellers are fantastic and really bring history to life, especially for kids. My kids still remember many of... More
