Charlene Lewis clearly loves providing visitors with a comprehensive tour of this city's African American heritage and more ! Each stop was full of information about the people, places, and events of the cultural and historical past as well as information about the present. In addition, a group of potential docents who took this tour, learned more than expected. Charlene's... More

I went on the tour expecting it to be interesting but not necessarily informative. I was wrong. It was far more than just interesting and the tour time flew by quickly. Thanks to Charlene, I learned a lot that I did not previously know about both Philadelphia and related African American History.. Charlene is both knowledgeable and personable AND was... More

The tour increased my knowledge of Philadelphia's rich and challenging history. I especially enjoyed the routes it took which included so many historical places (e.g. William Penn's 5 Squares and Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church). 5/16/15 abj

I organized a family reunion back in July for 70+ family members. I reached out to Charlene about PHAAT providing a private bus tour for 25 of us. She was a pleasure to work with and made the process seamless. The air conditioned van picked us up on-time at our hotel and dropped us back off. The tour was informative... More

The Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) Church is not highly publicised as a place to go while in Philadelphia but all I can say is that it is a MUST! We had managed to find a few articles on-line and a small mention in a DK Witness guide book and we were instantly interested in going to see... More

I am not a fan of history as I have found it to be boring yet knowing that it holds important value and insight... And maybe that has depended on the presenter!!! However I must say I had an awesome And amazing experience on the PHAAT tour with your guide Charlene Palmore-Lewis! She was amazing and a walking history book... More

In the 21st Century the tourism industry is very competitive. I have been on many tours in my lifetime, but the Philadelphia Historic African American Tour is the elite. The tour director Charlene was very professional from the beginning to the end of the tour. She provided detail information about ever historical place and event on the tour. The company... More

This tour was very informative and gave very detail and interesting information on African American History In Philadelphia. The tour guide, Charlene Palmore-Lewis was amazing. She did the whole tour without any of assistance from notes or electronic devices. She kept you engage during the tour by having you to ask questions and take pictures. There was a lot I... More

What an amazing 3 hours. I was so enriched by our tour guide, Charlene Palmore-Lewis. She was very knowledgeable and engaging. Encouraged all to ask questions. It was awesome to recall some of my historical knowledge of Philadelphia with face to face visualization. There was much African American history that I learned as well. Entering the edifice of "Mother Bethel"... More
