One of my favorite places to visit, not only because of the wonder of the Tower itself, but because of the amazing sense of peace you get walking around it. You see some beautiful vistas from the walk around it, and can watch squirrels and chipmonks scamper around. But to get a real sense of the area, go early in... More

We stayed in Rapid City in South Dakota, but took a day to drive and see Devils Tower! Next to Bear County, this was my second favorite part of our vacation! We walked around the base of the tower, not a flat surface!! There is a paved/black topped trail, and it's slightly hilly all the way around the tower. There... More

We visited Devil's Tower while driving between Rapid City and Thermopolis. It is well worth visiting. Some great views as you approach, and then a convenient parking lot next to the visitors centre. There is a fairly gentle trail which circles the base of the monument which we took, passing through forest and boulder terrain. Watching the climbers is entertaining,... More

For those of us who watched Steven Spielberg's "Close Encounters of The Third Kind" you will know what this place looks like. Richard Dreyfus built a model of it in his dinning room from the dirt from his garden in Indiana. Seriously, this natural wonder is amazing! Regional Native Americans tell various stories about the butte. The best of all... More

Stopped here on the way to Yellowstone. This huge geological formation in the middle of nowhere...it's pretty amazing. Don't go if you're not interested in that kind of stuff. The football field full of prairie dogs and their babies (in June) was wonderful. We hiked around and even had a deer come within 10 feet of us. Definitely a must... More

It is worth the drive to see the monument just appearing out of the ground. It is so peaceful. I understand why the Native Americans say this is a sacred place. The hike around the monument is very easy. It took us awhile as we took pictures every 2 steps. There is no way you can appreciate this monument from... More

We drove here as a side trip in Wyoming and it was well worth it. The weather was warm and sunny that day, and the tower was visible from many miles away. It is a natural phenomenon, the remainder of an inactive volcano, and juts up high out of the ground on its mountain base. The native Indians viewed it... More
