We were at Custer State Park but decided to take a day trip to the Devil's Tower. Very impressive.
The trail around the tower was easy to do and wheel chair friendly.

This is a spectacular piece of rock. The area of the monument is small, but there are several excellent trails. The main trail (1 mile) is paved and pretty easy, with spectacular views. Be sure to study up on the native american, spiritual aspects of Devils Tower before you visit. This is not just a rock, but a meaningful piece...

Must confess being from the UK had never heard of this Monument but read about it and decided we must go and see it. The first view from a distance is amazing. We first went into the visitor center and then did the 1.3 mile trip around the base. Plenty of benches on the way around. So glad we did,...

This was the last stop on a multi day vacation trip visiting South Dakota and Wyoming. I believe we saved the best for last-at least on this trip. When we first got to the park-it was overcast and a little rainy, but soon changed to blue skies. We ended up staying a couple of hours longer than planned because of...

If you had seen (and loved) Spielberg's "Close Encounters of The Third Kind" then you already know that Devil's Tower plays a critical role in the story. I wanted to go since I saw the movie as a teenager in the 90's and now, 15 years later, it was a reality as I stood there looking at it.

This was such a fun little side trip on our way to Cody Wyoming. There is a really nice little trail that takes you all the way around the tower, and it was really fun watching people climb to the top.

You first see the tower on approach from the South Dakota/Wyoming border. From 15-25 miles away, it towers above the landscape. Up close, it almost looks as if it was deposited from another world. Of course, a quick scamper through the visitors center can help you understand the geologic and natural forces that made the Tower. The hike around the...

I was just reminded that this was featured in Close Encounters.
My first glimpse was on a snowy/rainy day, and it "towers" over the surrounding countryside. Upon arriving, I stopped at the prairie dog meadow, and watched the critters scamper and stand at attention for a while. The walk around the tower is a little over a mile, but the...
