Intermediate trail

Great trail for beginning and intermediate level hikers. Lovely scenery and easy to follow signage. Beautiful surroundings and not overcrowded.

Great trail for beginning and intermediate level hikers. Lovely scenery and easy to follow signage. Beautiful surroundings and not overcrowded.

Take this hike to get some of the best views in the area. To the east you'll see the many lakes in the Mammoth area, as well as the mountain range beyond the desert. To the west you'll see the mountains of the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Only downside is the trail itself for the first 1.5 miles from Lake George... More

We did many hikes while in Mammoth, but this was by far our favorite. The Mammoth Crest Trail takes you above timberline, to the approximate boundary of John Muir Wilderness and Ansel Adams Wilderness. All of the Mammoth Lakes, and the beautiful vistas of the High Sierra are visible below, while the terrain becomes more and more Martian-like the further... More
