Books, posters, patches and pins, this place has it all, including a friendly and knowladgeable staff. Get your wilderness permits here, maps of the back country or free town map, directions to motels or campgrounds or information on just about anything.

Very helpful staff who can answer most relevant questions and give very helpful suggestions, with good variety of maps and literature, plus souvenirs. Great place for newcomers to get oriented.

The visitor center is staffed by members of the US Forest Service who can provide you with lots of information about the natural landmarks and features of the area. They also issue wilderness permits for those seeking to go overnight into the Inyo National Forest.

As a Visitor's Center, Mammoth is truly second rate. Very few exhibits (they had some animal pelts outside on a table top) and little to see. Even the restrooms are located in a separate building. Large selection of books and info on the surrounding area. Also, this is where you pick up your permit for overnight backpacking.

I stopped here in January for some information I was looking for; they were very nice and provided what i wanted. It is on your way into the Mammoth town area.

This is a pretty nice visitor center with an information desk with several folks available to answer questions. Maps...some free, some not...along with numerous brochures and some gift and apparel items are available as well. Adequate parking area as you enter Mammoth for this center.
