I didn't know about this deal until I arrived at the ticket window. Midweek the adult group lessons are often a private lesson. The deal takes about $50 bucks off the total. There's also a lesson plus lift ticket plus rental deal that provides even more savings. (No discount at demo shop where I rent.)

A recent review mentions cold water in the McCoy Station restroom-- that's true. But so what? It's a fabulous mountain and midweek the lines are low to non-existant, especially at Main Lodge and once up on the mountain.

Compared to current prices for admission to an amusement park, Mammoth Mountain's facilities and services are a bargain! Good Life Cafe on Old Mammoth Road highly recommended for "home cooking" (open all day but not every day).

Finally, if you like skiing in fresh powder, driving to Mammoth when it's stormy requires less than one hour driving at probably snowy altitudes, many fewer when compared to resorts in the western Sierra.

Wow! Mammoth mountain exceeded our expectations. I grew up skiing big bear resorts as a child, and now ski mainly Tahoe resorts as an adult, and never had been to Mammoth before. After our holiday in Los Angeles we decided to ski a few days in Mammoth and was blown away by the mountain. We spent three days skiing and still weren’t able to ski every run. My husband and I ski mainly blue/black runs and there was plenty to keep us busy and challenged. We were also surprised and delighted by the minimal crowds. We learned that the Ikon pass was blacked out from Christmas until New Years which really cut down in crowds making it much more enjoyable for us tourists. There were a lot of families and kids learning to ski which was cute. We also spent our evenings in the village. They had a big party on New Year’s eve with carnival entertainers, a live band and one of the most spectacular firework shows I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend skiing and in general visiting Mammoth Mountain!

Mammoth Mountain is my happy place and totally worth the $$$$ a trip here sets us back. Nothing can beat the rush of soaring down an empty run on a sunny day, looking out over the snowy expanse of the sierras. The mountain is enormous, the lift system is phenomenal, staff are friendly, and everyone you meet on the mountain is happy and friendly. We skied Dec 30, Dec 31, and Jan 1. Lift lines were minimal and the only crowding was inside the main lodge at noon. The next two days we ate lunch early so had no problems. My kids have taken several ski lessons here and came away much improved each time. For us it works best to get a condo near Canyon Lodge and get all our groceries in Bishop before getting to Mammoth.

We just spent a whole week at Mammoth and although they haven’t had new snow in over a month, we still had a great time. Bluebird days and nice groomers. Decent coverage considering the snowpack is low this year. Mammoth reminds me of a mellower version of Sun Valley but snowboarder friendly! The resort does a fabulous job on grooming and the dining options on the mountain are excellent. Yes, the entrees are expensive but the portions are ginormous! My husband and I always shared lunch because of that. My favorite runs were off of the High Five Express and Face Lift. I even rode down the Cornice off the Panorama Gondola which was a little frightening for me; however, the run is groomed though it was a little icy on the top. Unfortunately since they haven’t had new snow in awhile the off piste areas are rock hard and the back side of the mountain is icy. I bet on a powder day the resort would be a ton of fun! Lots of wide open bowls and groomers! Aprés on the deck of the Lincoln Bar at the Canyon Lodge is a must! I also recommend the pulled pork with 2 sides at The Mill which is enough food for 2 people. The resort also offers ski school plus day care for 3-4 year olds. Our 4 year old son was at the Village daycare for the week and he had 3 half day a.m lessons which he loved. He learned how to stop and turn, and by the 2nd lesson he took the chairlift on chair 17! Great program for children! The resort has all the amenities for a week long ski vacation!

Mammoth mountain was a blast this past week. Road conditions were tough getting in because of all the snow, but the mountain was outstanding. Tons of powder everywhere, so much fun.
Weekends are getting crowded for sure, but if you get up during the week it's much easier to get onto lifts quickly without long lines. They need to upgrade their food a little bit at the lodge areas. It would be nice to have a little higher quality food options and healthy options.
Great for the family or a Friends trip.
Lodging is getting very expensive and limited due to the heavy crowds. Definitely worth the drive, instead of going to Big Bear or mountain high if you can afford it.

I started skiing in 1963 at Boyne Mountain. I was seven. Started at Mammoth Mountain in 1974. I enjoy skiing. Daily lift tickets, at the window, were (as I recall) $17.00 at Mammoth. Locker rental at the main lodge was 75 cents. Families could ski there. Over the years, I've skied at resorts in Europe, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Vermont, BC, and places that slip my mind as I sit here. Mammoth was a place for skiers run by skiers. Think Dave McCoy. What a guy! Now, just like so many other corporate owned companies, the bottom line is the main concern. Value to the customer, the hallmark of success for my small business, comes in second. Maybe third. The problems began when Starwood Capital Group took ownership. All their resorts changed for the worse. Now, Alterra Mountain Company owns it. As I go through this life, I'm embarrassed by American corporations. The greed is astounding. Daily tickets at the window cost $200.00? That's crazy. I honestly can't imagine how they can justify that. I understand business expenses. My overhead is insane, but I bring a ton of value to my clients. I don't rake them over the coals. I could, but I don't. I sleep at night.

Go elsewhere if you can. As in another country. If anyone can point to a large, world class ski resort in this country that concerns itself with providing value to skiers and their families over shareholders, I will ski there exclusively.

Mammoth advertises that kids 4 and under ski free and they have “many” magic carpet lifts for youngsters. But mountain rules now are that all magic carpet lifts are only for paid lessons, even when no lessons are currently using them. We were told that magic carpets are closed to public for “risk management” and that we should instead carry our 3 year old on the full size chairlift with us. Dishonest advertising, dishonest justification, shady effort to pump more cash from families.

Background: My partner and I bought Helly Hansen gear, knowing the gear came with the Ski Free perk. (We are not loaded with money, as this gear was purchased at a significant discounted rate, so we planned this all really intentionally.) These perks range from a free day pass, to buy one get one free for same day use, buy one day, get the second day free etc. for specific resorts all over the world. Mammoth is one of those reports. .

We planned our trip to Mammoth based on this perk, and specifically chose this mountain for the “Buy One, Get One for same day use” perk so my partner and I could ski together.

Before going, we attempted to call, but it was a three hour hold time. I called the next day, and the hold time, was again, entirely too long.

Since we had been to other resorts and used this same kind of pass, we assumed we’d be good to go. We assumed wrong.

We drove 10+ hours only to get the mountain and for them to deny the pass. They said “we see what the pass says. But we only do the two day pass for the price of one.” As much of a great deal this is, it didn’t work for us. We only took one day off and had to leave before the next storm came in, as we had obligations to get to the next day. We came for the one day with the expectation of using the ski free pass.

We talked to a manager who, in my opinion, was incredibly rude and could not successfully show a policy that stated what she was saying. She raised her voice and left my partner and I with nothing but extreme disappointment and frustration.

We then asked if there was ANYTHING they could do, since they couldn’t honor this pass in any capacity and they refused to give any discount and said, “just stay for two days and ski for two days.” Again, much like the rest of the conversation, this manager was not hearing us and that we only had that specific day to ski.

This manager was incredibly rude and disrespectful, and as someone who works in retail, this was not the kind of experience that made us want to come back. The raised voice, and lack of empathy/understanding is not how I would want customers to be met with, esp at a high end resort like Mammoth.

Make skiing more accessible to people who aren’t as privileged as 99% of the guest that ski at mammoth. Not everyone has $500+ to drop in a single day.
(Side note: Y’all can’t accommodate when you’re making 58 MILLION dollars in revenue a year? Come on.)
Teach empathy to the employees, so even in disappointing circumstances, guest will still want to come back.
And, call Helly Hansen and have the pass changed to what is accurate so people don’t plan an entire trip around false information. AND/OR honor what the pass says until y’all change it. To just deny, is absolutely ridiculous.

The amenties at Mammoth Mountain in general need an upgrade, and the service is lacking on many points. But in this review, I want to say "Thank You" and Kudos to the maintenance team and the army of piston-bulley guys who make this mountain worth skiing. This is my 42nd season in Mammoth. I've seen the ups and downs. But Alterra's shortcomings aside, with as little snow as we have gotten this year, (and thank goodness for the cold temps) the grooming crew has not on;y kept Mammoth alive, but the skiing has been AWESOME for this season, and because of their hard work, even on this base, we can smile and feel good.

When the Mammoth sell tickets office sell tickets, they do not warn the customer that the ticket is non-refundable and non-resalable. We bought our ticket for the next day and after riding with our half day pass, we realised how small and short mountings are. You wait in line longer than ride down itself. Half lifts are closed and still the ride would be short and not what they put in description as an expedience. The worst mounting and riding resort in the USA with poor policies. Then you come to tickets office and ask for the refund of the next day ticket, they do not accommodate, basically just waiting in silence for you to walk away. I am as a customer felt like being rubbed. The supervisor Christian Beltran lacks any customer service skill, resources actually resolve the issue. A real supervisor has much better ways, knowledge, abilities, and empathy to improve customer’s experience rather then leaching money and make it worst. His employees are focused just on sale but they will never let you know in advance that tickets for next days are non refundable. The worst experience. Save your money, nerves, and time. Go to another place.
