Exciting for this mountain-locked, Vail family to be out on the ocean. Only 3 whales at a distance, but the large pod of dolphins playing in the boat wake made our day. We appreciated that the captain went all the way around Anacapa Island and we got a close up view of the arch rock and seals. The captain and... More

The weather is completely out of the control of Island Packers. They can't be blamed. Having said that, I don't think they should haul more people out on a cold rainy day than can fit inside the boat's cabin. We had a large group because of all the volunteer high school kids going out to plant native plants. We knew... More

Took the trip from Ventura to Santa Cruz Island (Prisoner's Harbor). Boat ride was smooth, if a bit chilly (WEAR LAYERS! It is January, after all!). Boat crew was friendly/professional/helpful. We saw hundreds of dolphins and many Gray whales on the way there and back. Our favorite part was the guided hike from Prisoner's Harbor to Pelican Bay. Glorious weather... More

Took Island Packers out to Santa Cruz Island, Scorpion landing. Very clean boat, knowledgeable crew. Saw gray whales, dolphins, and seals during the trip, even though this was not one of their wildlife cruises.

Took them from Oxnard to Anacapa on the Vanguard. The crew was professional and the trip over very comfortable. We had two naturalists on the trip and they were both knowledgeable and helpful. The best though was that the crew took us on the back side of Anacapa - which they didn't have to do - and we stumbled on... More

We went on a whale watching excursion with Island Packers while we were in Ventura. We saw orcas, loads of dolphins and sea lions, and even a humpback decided to pay us a visit while we were out! It was a little over 3 hours long, and my husband needed a little Dramamine to help him manage through it, but... More

I have been whale watching before and not seen very much. But this time it was great, gorgeous clear day and the crew knew where to look and when to hang out and just wait. Saw 2 types of whales and 3 kinds of dolphins. The boats are in great condition, comfortable seats. Inexpensive concessions in case you are hungry... More

We took their cruise to the Scorpion Ranch anchorage on the east side of Santa Cruz Island. The seas in the channel were very rough, but the day was sunny and we were treated to visits by friendly dolphins and seals. Upon landing, we hiked to Potato Harbor admiring the spectacular views of the shoreline and across to Santa Barbara,... More

The trip out to Santa Cruz can be a bit rough. If you are subject to sea sickness, take something and/or sit below in the stern where the movement is lessened. (The return trip is usually much calmer.) As advertised, we saw dolphins both ways, and the occasional whale spout. The hiking on the island itself offered great vistas back... More

I just got back from visiting Santa Cruz island for the first time, my actual first life camping experience to boot and Island Packers took me there. The Island Packers crew was extremely courteous, responsive, and helpful. We were a bit delayed on getting to the boat due to the so called "storm of the year" and they were very... More
