The first thing I noticed was the horrible smell of feces near each exhibit. Most animal housing resembles cages vs. a habitat. I felt sorry for the larger animals who paced (captive behavior). Smaller zoos really have a hard time keeping up with humane treatment of their animals.

We sent to the staff at the Catoctin Wuildlife Preserve and Zoo the following commendation of this magnificent zoo: We wish to express our appreciation of the CWP and the staff who make it such a wonderful wildlife preserve. The number and variety of animals is extraordinary. Each animal inhabits a beautifully tailored environment, and all appear so well cared... More

I visited the zoo today with my two kids, ages 3 and 7. My kids love animals so we decided to visit Catoctin, based on the ability to get up close to and feed the animals. We paid the extra $10 per person for the safari ride. Unfortunately, the safari was canceled due to mechanical problems. Before our safari was... More

Have only been here a few times in my life, but always enjoy it. My little nephew has been here a few times recently, so he kind of acted like our personal tour guide, lol. I may be kind of bias but my favorite part was getting to see the tiger. :)

This place kind of reminds me of that movie "We Bought A Zoo" - very mom and pop but the staff is friendly and the kids love this place. Parking was easy and convenient. I recommend spending the extra $10.00 for the safari ride - it really makes the whole trip worth it. My suggestion is pack your own water... More

My kids love to go there - and pet many of the animals - and feed some in the 'petting area'. Prices are reasonable. The Safari ride is great (but expensive). The parakeet aviary is wonderful - the parakeets will be all over you - eating from your hand. And you do enough walking to get a little bit of... More

Took the grand daughters to see the animals. We all had a great time. The park/zoo is very large. It took almost three hours to walk through, and we still didn't see it all. We were a little early in the season and not all the attractions were available. Will probably get a season pass and go back many times.... More

Let me preface this review by saying -- this is a small, private zoo. It's not the National Zoological Gardens in DC, or the San Diego Zoo in California. So you really can't compare it as such... compare to the Luray Zoo or the Reston Zoo. It's also not nearly as crowded as the bigger zoos - it's like visiting... More

We did the 'hayride' there and the family enjoyed it. Souvenir item for sale, exhibits were nice. Animals looked good. We would visit again.

Beautiful day and uncrowded were the pros, the grounds are clean and nice to navigate. There a dozens of empty cages , including the small animal pavilion, many more with NO signage, the safari area looks desolate and sad. (Wasn't open 4-20-14) For the $17 pp adult fee I expected much more, no animal shows or talks..mainly animals you can... More
