I am very sorry to have to post the Harlem Heritage tours as being undependable. I spent three weeks trying to get the director to either commit to having the Night Club Tour or to tell me that he is not going to have one. I called at least eight times and each time, he assured me he was going... More

Hello my Name is Neal Shoemaker and I'm the owner of Harlem Heritage Tours, firstly I want to apologize to the reviewer for the lack of consistency you recently experienced with our night time jazz experience. Honestly speaking over the 6 weeks we have been engaged in a major renovation of our cultural center that resulted in a lack of... More

We booked the Harlem Renaissance Multimedia Walking Tour. All my respect for the good will and the energy of our 86 old guide, but the tour was boring and didn't offer what it promised. There was no multimedia at all, and the information offered was only on a cultural level (architecture was completely missing) . If you are over 60... More

I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a tour as a part of a school trip. Our guide, Neal, was welcoming, enthusiastic, and exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of Harlem and its citizens. Not only were we given a general timeline and shown key locations around Harlem, but we met and interacted with residents in an authentic way. In... More

We did the harlem historical tour, myself, my husband and our 8 year old son. Andi was a wealth of information! We all learned so much, and my son enjoyed Andi's humour and friendliness. He is in amazing shape/health for an 86 year old! Be prepared to walk ALOT, so bring comfy shoes and appropriate clothes for the weather. Next... More

I took the Harlem Heritage Tour with my two children (11, 13), and my mom (late 70's). Andy was our guide. We got off to a bad start because I went to the wrong location. I thought we were supposed to meet at their main office. We became frustrated because no one was there, and despite numerous phone calls over... More

We took the Heritage tour. We would highly recommend this walking tour for some one who has only a limited amount of time. It's easy to get to via subway. It is only 2 hours start to finish.--well a little over. It is only $25 pp. Andy Owen was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable 85 year old guide. Boy, he can... More

Neil and Andy are great hosts. Neil grew up in Harlem in the projects, went to college and became a banker. He started to see tours of Harlem being given by people who were not from there and felt that there needed to be a tour that gives an insider's peek of the community. The tour guests ended up being... More

I had the pleasure of attending the Harlem Heritage Civil Rights tour with my school group and had an amazing time. The kids enjoyed the excitement and interaction from the tour guides. They made us feel as if we were right back in the time with the civil rights activist. It was an amazing experience and we will definitely be... More

I wanted a different tour in Harlem and this was definitely so. Andy, an 85-year-old guide, was absolutely wonderful - with a huge knowledge about Harlem as well as a big sense of humour and also very much up-to-date of what is happening in the area. The visit at the Church and information regarding how it is working was very,... More

I was lucky enough to take the Friday night jazz tour and a Sunday gospel tour with the Harlem Heritage tour company. The jazz tour was awesome and very entertaining. Neal Shoemaker does an excellent job leading this tour using his iPad to play music and show videos that related to the history of Harlem. As part of the tour... More
