The Guide was very "in" Harlem! Excited, Motivated, trying to give back to the community.... unfortunately due to the fact that 15 participants /a group/ (out of 18.... ) were 45 minutes late!!!!!! the output was very average... I hope people start treating eachother with more.... TIME RESPECT. I had to cancel my plans...

Neal was an entertaining, engaging and informative guide. Lots of local insights on the area. Imagination definitely needed..not many actual sites left standing. Tour even included an old speakeasy site. Prominent locals that we "accidentally" encountered added authenticity. Savoy, Cotton Club, Smalls Paradise, Apollo Theater sites, Abyssinia Baptist Church, burial location of Langston Hughes ashes all very interesting. Last site,... More

On a bright, sunny day in Harlem my family of 4 along with another family of 4, friends of ours from out of town, joined a lone Brazilian on the Multimedia walking tour of Harlem Renaissance Tour. Our tour guide, Neal was very energetic, funny and extremely knowledable about the Harlem of the past, present and ideals for the future.... More

On Saturday, I took an out of town friend to Harlem for the first time. We were on Neal's Harlem Renaissance Tour and we both enjoyed it. We started out at the Center for Black Culture. Saw a street fair where the main emphasis was books by black authors. Then we walked the neighborhood to see the Apollo Theatre, the... More

Neal was a great guide taking us back in time to experience the ages and cultures of Harlem. It was wonderful to imagine Malcolm, and Martin, and The Apollo, and... and... and... Neal made the times come to live in story, music, laughter! Worth it for sure.

We had a very enjoyable 4 hour walking tour of Harlem. Our guide, Neal Shoemaker, was outstanding. He grew up in Harlem and still lives in Harlem. In addition to exploring the cultural history of Harlem, our specific tour also focused on music as a key element of black cultural development. Neal incorporated music history throughout our walking tour, and... More

This was an excellent and highly informative walking tour, led by Neal Shoemaker. Neal is enormously enthusiastic as well as knowledgeable, about the history of Harlem, cultural developments, politics, just about everything. He used music and speeches by famous Harlem residents to liven up the tour. We covered a lot of ground, physically and intellectually. It was a bit tiring,... More

Neal provided a great tour that used music to take you back to the Harlem of the past. His knowledge and love of Harlem are clearly evident. We took the Harlem Renaissance tour but Neal also provided info about the early development, present day, and turbulent civil rights days of Harlem as well.

Booking Harlem Heritage Tour offers you the opportunity to visit a part of NYC which most probably you would not visit independently, because of unjust reputation, because too far from downtown or simply because not a priority. Undeserved. Neil Shoemaker embodies a kind of positive energy which will instantly convince you. This is a walking multi media tour. He is... More
