This walking tour of Harlem highlighted historical events from the 17th century to present day. The tour guide is a Harlem native and told the history as if it were not from a school book but from his life and experiences and education in Harlem. It was almost mystical because as we walked our tour guide played tunes from the... More

We had a very informative and primary tour in Harlem. The guide was great! His backpack with music boxes even more. It made the tour very genuine. And the soul food in the end made it perfect. The Harlem background of the guide was really an enrichment for the tour. He made it a good mix of history, music and... More

This was one of my highlights of NYC. You could tell Neil, who grew up and still lives in Harlem is so passionate about Harlem and its history. He gave a fantastic tour. I would strongly recommend going on this tour, especially if you're into NYC history. My only regret is I didn't have enough time to do some of... More

Tours started with the guide trying to get ahold of our guide but was apparently unable to reach him. He said it was fine because he grew up there and could take us on the tour. The Gospel music was beautiful. As others said there are two collections at the church.. Visitors sit in the balcolony and leave after the... More

Sunday Gospel Walking Tour- Highly recommend. The tour gave us better understanding of the neighborhood and it's residents, as well as the historical background of the place. It was interesting, educational, enjoyable and funny.

Highly recommend this very interesting walking tour of Harlem. Our guide, Andy, at age 87, was so very knowledgeable, not to mention more fit than any of us. The tour concluded with a visit to the Apollo Theater. I have been on a lot of walking tours in a lot of places, and this was one of the most interesting.

My wife and I and another couple live upstate. We go into NYC twice a year for a show and an overnighter. Each person plans a new adventure. I have been wanting to visit and learn more about Harlem for years. Neil was just the best. I was once director of a museum and trained many docents. Neil knows his... More

We did the Sunday Gospel Walking Tour and found it really, really rewarding, full of interesting information from our tour guide Neil, who carried a tablet where he would play clips from movies shot in the area, play music with Harlem references, and give historic background information to Harlem, the importance of the Church, religion, Dr Martin Luther Kinng, Malcolm... I loved this tour. As it was only a small group it felt very casual and not too planned, we kept running into Harlem 'locals' that all had amazing stories to tell which made it really interactive and interesting. I hadn't been to Harlem before and never knew what to think of it but this tour almost made me want... More

We met with Joseph an instantly likeable chap who took us to a local Harlem restaurant for our first taste of soul food. It was here that we met Neal, our tour guide, who was extremely informative about his local neighbourhood. We learnt so much about the history and the residents and leaders of the district. One of the highlights... More
