I did the general Harlem tour on a Monday and it was one of the best things I did in New York so far. Neal, the guide, seems to know everything there is to know about Harlem and its history. He managed to cater to special requests and questions of the customers and weaved in some things he did not... More

I really enjoyed this tour. The guide was a really cool guy, really knowledgeable about the area and a great personality - really engaging. He's 86 years old but not showing any signs of slowing down!

I did the Harlem Gospel Walking Tour. The tour started by spending an hour in a church in Harlem, then we were walking down the street. Neal, our tour guide, had an iPad and was playing Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis while we walked down the street. We peppered him with questions and he was very knowledgeable. It was about... More

I am disappointed to report that no one turned up to take my tour. The store was closed. I phoned and got voicemail. I was contacted 5 minutes after the starting time and advised the tour was cancelled. Very disappointing given I had spent a lot of time getting myself to Harlem. If I was a tourist with only a... My wife and I booked a walking tour of Harlem through Harlem Heritage Tours and were fortunate enough to have Andy Owens as our guide. Although not a native of Harlem, Andy had lived there for many years and seemed thoroughly familiar with the history, architecture, and culture of Harlem from its beginnings, through the Harlem Renaissance, to the present... We had a 2-hour Renaissance tour that lasted even longer. Our guide, Andi Owens, was amazing, knowledgable and so positive about Harlem. Can't wait for my next trip so that we can try some of the restaurants he told us about.

We spent an afternoon on a walking tour with Andy Owens through Harlem and were blown away by his knowledge of and enthusiasm for the area. Along with the history of the area, he interspersed his perspective, which really gave it life. We heard about ministers and entrepreneurs who helped Harlem thrive and saw the sites of places that helped... More

For the last three years, we have traveled from Rhode Island to NYC with our entire junior class (40 students) to study the Harlem Renaissance, civil rights movement, race relations and gentrification. Our tours with Neil have been reported through survey data as the most memorable and impactful experience of our trip. Each year, our experience is tailored to our... More
