Neal Shoemaker, led us on a Gospel Tour on Sunday, Feb 22. I have participated in excellent (and less than excellent, to be polite) tours with informed and engaged (and less so) guides in many cities in the US, Europe, Central/South America and southern Africa. I can honestly say Mr. Shoemaker and the tour he created ranks among the best... More

My name is Alejandro, I work for an after school program located in the Bronx. We decided to take a group of students in a food Harlem tour. From the beginning of the tour students were engaged and motivated. We were all initially impressed with Neal Shoemakers enthusiasm, communication skills and professional demeanor from the moment we came in. The... More

We had the most amazing experience seeing Harlem through the eyes of our guide Neal. He spoke so passionately and knowledgeably about the area. We arrived at his office early and were offered Coffee and shelter from the bitter winter wind, he even invited some lost tourists in to shelter from the harsh -18C! The gospel church service was so... More

We had a group of 16 young students booked into a tour. We arrived at the office and it was closed. We had the office number but no direct number for the guide. He arrived two and a half hours late. The office was a mess, no clean toilet and

Hello My name is Neal Shoemaker and I own and operate Harlem Heritage Tours. I was the guide for this tour and yes I did get the scheduling wrong thinking that the tour was on February 18th instead of February 16th and I do apologize about that, it was a scheduling mistake. After we caught up to the group we... More

We did not enjoy this tour. We did the Harlem Gospel Tour and learned almost nothing about gospel music or Harlem. The office we started from was a bit of a mess with trash on the floors - our guide claimed it was because of a party the night before, but really it gave a bad impression and started everyone... My name is Neal Shoemaker and I'm the Owner of Harlem Heritage Tours and I would like to apologize to the reviewer for the tour she considered to be inadequate. Yes there was a party the night before in the office and it should have been maintained the following morning for arriving guests. This is usually not the case and... More

We had an amazing day out with Neal in and around Harlem, we had such an incredible time. The gospel service was heartwarming and beautiful. Neal's knowledge of and passion for Harlem made it one of the best days out I have had in New York, we learned so much and had great fun. Lunch at Sylvia's afterwards was just... More

I came in to watch film dedicated to Black History month and to gather information for a college project I was working on. Neil himself was very kind and inviting! Although the center is small, it reflects Harlem's history and heritage. I was offered hot chocolate and blankets, because it was a cold day. The staff was very responsive and... More

We were given the endpoint of the tour as a starting point when we signed up online. The tour guide contacted us and we were able to meet the rest of the group and take the entire tour, but that led to a half hour late starting time. The tour seemed like a work in progress. Historical information about some... More
