On our gourmet shopping bus trip the first stop is always Zabars followed by Little Italy and then the Village; Zabars is always crowded, especially the cheese counter and the bread area. Everyone orders the fresh baked bread. We always buy some cheese and some bread and usually a lot more than that on our visits

Lots of food, desserts, breads, cookies, ready made items to purchase. I tried the smoke fish from Maine and it was awesome!

We love shopping at Zabar's - everything is delicious: the fresh bread; tuna and egg salads; deli food; grilled chicken.

Zabar's is a New York City institution and an Upper West Side staple. Anything you can get at Zabar's you don't go elsewhere for. The reason for this is the simplicity of natural ingredients, the freshness and flavorful appeal. This is New York City's gourmet market par excellence. Indeed, I know hardened New Yorkers who hardly ever leave their surrounding... More

Each time we are in NYC, avisit to Zabars is not to be missed. Their matzo ball soup and bagels stuffed with cream cheese and smoked salmon are always on our list. Fabulous array of cheeses, freshly baked breads, cold meats are worth queuing up for.

A must-stop place for foodies is Zabar's. It's the one place in the U.S. where we can always find Livarot. There is a cheese store in Northern California that we frequent that lists Livarot as one of the cheeses they carry, but it is rarely in stock. Any time we go to NYC, we'll make a stop at Zabar's to... More

Just came back from NY overnight trip. As part of NYC experience we stopped for bagels and cannoli at Zabars. While eating cannoli guess what I discovered in my mouth!!! A piece of human nail. I almost vomited. Watch out patrons. It is clearly low trained workers are working behind the scenes with zero supervision. I think NY city health... More

Eli Zabar's has a branch in the Grand Central Station market which opens early and sells nice bread and pastry items for those seeking a light bite to eat to eat. I stopped here recently and enjoyed a Sticky Bun (US$3) that was quite good. Bun was well, not too heavy with the cinnamon or the maple topping. The pecans... More

Good NY Deli - especially if you want food to go. The cafeteria/eat-in section is not that great in my opinion. Shop for food items to take-out.

We stopped into this take-out branch on the UES and found the most delicious vichyssoise, chicken salad sandwich and chocolate mousse! Took it back to the hotel and feasted for two days. If we'd had more time I would have come back for many other treats.
