Of all the places I visited in New York (I was there for two months on business) I disliked Times Square the most. It's so crowded and so noisy. After visiting I avoided it.

Times Square Visitor center is one of the best places to visit in the city. Not only do they provide you with the best information for the city and the best places to go and see but the red stairs are one of the best areas to simply sit and take in all that New York really is. Whether you... More

You have to see it! Although it is usually overcrowded with tourists, it is nice to just take in your surroundings. Also good to see at night time!

We wanted help to find the local attractions and the staff were patient, despite the long line waiting. They made us feel welcome.

We went early in the evening to see what was going on before we went out to dinner. It was very crowded and a lot of people were there to look around. The neon lights were bright and colorful. It was noisy. There were some people dressed in a bizarre manner. There were some free shows but we decided to... More

We stopped there last week as we needed some inputs on how to get down to Battery Park as fast as possible. The attendant there was very polite and pointed us to the red metro line and gave us a few pointers on how to use the subway more efficiently in the city. Great place to stop if ever confused... Times Square is a must see of the entire East Coast. It's a face, heart and soul of New York city. Very nice to walk around anytime of the day and year. Sometimes it's overcrowded, sometimes it can be pretty empty. I walked around TS at 5am on December 1st once, it looked like a fairy tale. Empty, quiet, first... More

During a recent trip to New York City, we wandered through Times Square. We happened to be there on 9/11/14 - just in time to see the nutty protestors there who carried signs saying "Thank God for 9/11" along with "Joan Rivers is in hell" signs. One thing is definite about Times Square- you see an interesting mix of people... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
