Owner description: Disney's NEWSIES, the breakout new American musical, is now on Broadway in New York City! The musical, based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Big River revival) and choreographed by Tony nominee Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific revival). Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. NEWSIES is inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of real life orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The original Disney film has morphed into a cult phenomenon with a generation of avid fans discovering the movie on VHS and DVD. The stage version introduces several brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’

Teens love it. Fantastic choreography, contagious soundtrack. An engaging show. Wait outside for the autographs after the show, a must.

The theme is suitable for an audience of all ages. If you love dancing you' ll see a high quality of technique and you'll appreciate The wonderful Lines and... More

Loved the original Disney movie. Didn’t think the musical could be as great as I expected it to be but it was. The dancing, costumes, acting, vocals etc. Everything was done perfectly. Lots of energy and entertaining the whole way though. Perfect for couples, family or a group of friends! A must see, don’t miss out! Will defiantly see it... More

Great dancing and ensemble singing make this show enjoyable from start to finish. There is also not a bad seat in the house.

Simple really, it's kind of like Annie but a boy version, and nobody gets adopted. A classic David and goliath story, nothing too elaborate or captivating in terms of the plot. Great vocals, amazing choreography and dancing.

I was recommended by a theatre going friend to see Newsies whilst in New York. I really loved it! It was well paced with great singing, strong male dancing and snappy set changes. The leads and cast were all good, and I agree that Specs steals many scenes. There werent any dull or slow bits, and a standing ovation completed... More

Got discount tickets at TKTS booth - the line moves pretty fast. Show has great talent, both singing and dancing. Got better and better as the show progressed. Stage sets were unique and much more fascinating than would have guessed just by looking at them before the show started. Was good to see this in NYC for the historical connection.... More

We really enjoyed Newsies and from the response of the rest of the audience, they did too. The music and dancing was very entertaining and the cast really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. We would recommend this show to all audiences.
