Disney's NEWSIES, the breakout new American musical, is now on Broadway in New York City! The musical, based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Big River revival) and choreographed by Tony nominee Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific revival). Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. NEWSIES is inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of real life orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The original Disney film has morphed into a cult phenomenon with a generation of avid fans discovering the movie on VHS and DVD. The stage version introduces several brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’

I am reviewing the touring production which I had the pleasure of seeing at the Smith Center in Las Vegas and the Pantages in Los Angeles. Great energy by the entire cast. Everyone is giving 100% and really seem to enjoy what they are doing. I enjoyed the tour more than the original Broadway Cast. Looking forward to catching it... More

My 6 year-old son and I saw this musical just last night at Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. We both loved it! My son loves the movie, so I was taken back a little bit with a new character (Katherine) and a lack of Kid Blink - the actually leader of Newsboys Strike. Still he loved it, and I enjoyed... More

Songs were plain and not outstanding; it was hard to understand the words and the plot was weak. The dancers were good but that is not enough to spend that type of money

I took my son to Newsies last night. What a great fast paced energenic musical. The actors were a triple threat with great dancing, acting and singing. A great show.

I went into this play not knowing much about the story and was blown away by the performances. The singing was wonderful but the dancing really put it over the top. I would love to see it again.

This was a fantastic play! The dancing and staging were excellent! However, the signing was just okay. I enjoyed the storyline and wished they could have developed the "poor children's campaign" more. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it tremendously.

I saw this show with small expectations because of the movie, but man I was blown out of the water! A mass of singing, dancing, revoluting, and very good looking guys in a huge musical extravaganza! After the show, I bought the album, shirt, and bag and l left with a long lasting expression. This is a must see for all broadway lovers

My boys loved this show. Ages 10 and 12. After the show we stood outside taking pictures and the performers came out and signed autographs and took pictures. Great experience!

This is pure Disney - and that is NOT a compliment. It is manipulative - the main and most disturbing Disney trademark. It is predictable - never do we feel there is any chance the "strike" will fail - nor is there any thought given to the consequences if it does fail or, more importantly, if it does not fail...
