The musical, based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Big River revival) and choreographed by Tony nominee Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific revival). Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. NEWSIES is inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of real life orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The original Disney film has morphed into a cult phenomenon with a generation of avid fans discovering the movie on VHS and DVD. The stage version introduces several brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’ « less

We loved the show. We were a party of five and all of us absolutely loved this show. We all wished we could see it again the next night!

This is our second time seeing this musical. I love the theatre and the settings. The cast is high energy start to finish with wonder music and lyrics and amazing dancers. Go see it now on Broadway or on the touring shows.

If like me you grew up watching the movie Newsies as a kid, this Broadway musical will not disappoint! The cast is super talented and you'll know the music straight from the movie! Costumes were on point as well!

Of course we know how it turns out ( it is Disney after all), and this show and its frantic dancing is really fun. no sex, no special effects, just amazing choreography and music. I still can't figure out how they moved those metal stairways all around without someone getting killed. Fantastic!

Fun show. Don't recommend the front row. You want to sit at least a few rows back to be able to see the dancing and take it all in.

This is an excellent show and great for all ages, kid to grandparent. The cast is brilliant with vocal and dance talent abounding. The music is high energy and the acting is convincing. You really lose yourself in New York of the late 19th century. HURRY and see it as it closes in late August

We saw Newsies when we couldn't get tickets for a different show. My kids really liked it. Great music and high energy dancing. A fun evening for all. Lovely theater with more legroom than some. Very comfy seats. My 13 year old would have given this show top marks.

This was not one of our choices for must see musicals in NYC but I am so glad we did. We picked up some last minute discounted seats and all I can say is if you get a chance see it. Large cast of amazing dancers and singers. The lead actor Corey Cott is great and I hope to see... More

Loved this musical. We were glad we got to see it before it leaves town. The actors were all good and they really gave it their all. Lots of energy. At TKTS the tickets sells out fast. The Theatre has 3 levels and we were in row JJ on the top level. We could see everything no problems. Refreshments were... More

The singing and dancing were great, the show very entertaining, we were in the rear mezzanine and had a good view, but I think it would be great to be down in the stalls and be close to the action
