The musical, based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Big River revival) and choreographed by Tony nominee Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific revival). Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. NEWSIES is inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of real life orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The original Disney film has morphed into a cult phenomenon with a generation of avid fans discovering the movie on VHS and DVD. The stage version introduces several brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’ « less

We sat in Mezzanine section, second row back but on the end. I would recommend middle seats in Mezzanine, not on the ground, as you see more. Very fun musical, great story and appropriate for all ages

I didn't love Newsies. The choreography and the dancing were fantastic, but the songs and the story weren't great. The first act starts and ends with a very weak song, "Santa Fe". The night I went, the female lead, among others, was sick and there was no chemistry between the understudy and Jack. I also don't understand the character of... More

Absolutely loved this show. I wanted my young son to see the incredible dancing in this musical. He and my teenage daughter loved it. Not sure if it would appeal to all ages but it was very entertaining and you could feel the energy from the dancers.

We were so excited to get tickets to see "Newsies" while in New York. It didn't disappoint!!! The dancing was amazing! One wanted to get up and dance in the aisles! Story was a nice story, but it was the dancing and singing that really made the show great! I'd stand in line to see it again. My granddaughter (a... More

Took a punt on this one and was not disappointed. We were on the Mezzinine. The set design is such that we had excellent views of all the action. A real slice of American history set to music with awesome dancing and a very tallented cast. Go and see it.

Great dancing, fun for me and my 12 & 17 year old daughters. One is a dancer and the other likes dancing boys -- so it was a great fit.

This was our kids' first Broadway show and boy was it a hit. Great songs, but even better dancing. Smaller theater,so there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house.

The most boring musical I have ever seen, thin plot line & no empathetic characters, doubt this will be around for years to come with any luck!

It was so entertaining and all the people who are apart of the Musical do an excellent job at what they do. The dancing in Newsies was phenomenal and the plotline was based on a true story.

I took my 3 small town teenagers to see the Newsies last Saturday, April 12th. It was our first time to NYC and I wanted to expose the kids to a variety of things. I was really excited to come to a Broadway show, but left disappointed. I chose this show on recommendations from TripAdvisor blogs, as it was described... More
