Owner description: Disney's NEWSIES, the breakout new American musical, is now on Broadway in New York City! The musical, based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Big River revival) and choreographed by Tony nominee Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific revival). Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. NEWSIES is inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of real life orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The original Disney film has morphed into a cult phenomenon with a generation of avid fans discovering the movie on VHS and DVD. The stage version introduces several brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’

I saw this show with small expectations because of the movie, but man I was blown out of the water! A mass of singing, dancing, revoluting, and very good looking guys in a huge musical extravaganza! After the show, I bought the album, shirt, and bag and l left with a long lasting expression. This is a must see for all broadway lovers

My boys loved this show. Ages 10 and 12. After the show we stood outside taking pictures and the performers came out and signed autographs and took pictures. Great experience!

This is pure Disney - and that is NOT a compliment. It is manipulative - the main and most disturbing Disney trademark. It is predictable - never do we feel there is any chance the "strike" will fail - nor is there any thought given to the consequences if it does fail or, more importantly, if it does not fail... ...because it was so good that I wanted to see it again. It's really really good. The dancing was excellent, the songs were marvellous. It's a Disney show. I was lucky to get rush tickets, but be advised to get to the line in time, which means at about 8.30, max. 9.00 in the morning if you wish to save.

This show was excellent! The story, the acting, the dancing. It was very good. If there is a choice to be made between Matilda and Newsies, I'd choose Newsies every time.

Traveled to the city for Christmas. We always do thing the last minute and we stumbled upon Newsies. To our delight, this was an amazing show. It had no awkward, or boring moments. Exciting til the very end. Must see.

The role and life of a "newsboy" in the depression is the story line for this musical. Singing and dancing is the major component. It is nice, but not as engaging as the other Disney shows.

Seeing a Broadway show was one of my bucket list "to-do's" and I'm thrilled we chose to see this show! We decided to see Newsies after chatting with the helpful attendants at the Times Square TKTS booth and they recommended this show as we were really after a "full" show. The calibre of the cast was top notch! The singing,... More
