The musical, based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie musical of the same name, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy). NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Big River revival) and choreographed by Tony nominee Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific revival). Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. NEWSIES is inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of real life orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. The original Disney film has morphed into a cult phenomenon with a generation of avid fans discovering the movie on VHS and DVD. The stage version introduces several brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’ « less

When we arrived in New York, we had not heard of this show, reading TA I came upon a review and am so glad we did. If you love music, action, and dancing still with a good story line and humour this show is for you. The performers were excellent putting 110% into everything they did. Almost managed to get... An excellent choice for all ages. My 12 year old son enjoyed and understood the sroryline in this quiant smaler theatre. I purchased 40% off tickets at TKTS in Times Square on teh day of the perfromance. $365 for two seats in row 10. Money well spent!

I enjoyed Newsies, the second half was better than the first. It wasn't my favourite show but I did enjoy it.

I can't believe I got to see this amazing broadway show! The cast is extremely talented, they dance, act and sing incredible! It's ideal for the whole family, and I strongly recommend you to go see it before it closes on August 24. It's a once in a lifetime experience, you'll leave the theater with a big smile and with... I had heard about Newsies, but was never quite sure that I wanted to see it. Afterall it's about a bunch of singing and dancing newspaper boys, right? I was so wrong. The storyline was quite intriguing and was told by song by a very athletic, energetic and talented cast. The theatre is small so you really can't get a... More

It was probably the best Broadway show I have ever visited. It was only my 4th show, but it didn't disappoint. The choreography was excellent, the effects were original, the story was engaging and the performers were all top-notch. **I sadly had my view blocked by the most gigantic man I have ever seen, but I was able to scoot... We took our 12 year old to NYC this past week, so I was just looking for a kid-friendly show. I didn't expect much from Newsies, but honestly, it is now one of my favorite musicals ever! We all LOVED it!!! The story is great, the dancing is amazing, and the singing . . . seriously, I know for sure... More

Newsies was great. The story, acting and dancing were good. The scenery was cool. I recommend you seeing it, since it is going on national tour, see it when it comes to you.
