On a recent business trip to New York I had a day to myself and decided to try getting my hands on a couple of books I was unable to find in Ireland. The books were recently out of print due to the death of the author and therefore I was becoming more and more frustrated with locating them. I... More

Amazing bookstore. We went two times while our stay in NYC. The third floor with the rare books is stunning, but check before you go if there's any events, as we couldn't see it in our first day due to a book presentation. We were able to find some rare books that we loved, and some merchandising as a souvenir... More

This is definitely a one and amazing bookshop. It has a lovely ambience with wooden bookshelves and floors that crack as you walk. The collection of titles available is of course quite varied including best sellers, classics, and literature from all over the world in English translation. There's always good books to find at bargain prices. As if not enough,... More

It is a place to truly get lost among the stacks of books. There are often events on, on the 3rd floor where the rare books are. There is a letter-boxing (letterboxing.org) treasure find here too! :)

With everyone using eReaders (me included) it's great to find a good bookstore with a large assortment of stuff. This time we were shopping for our granddaughter and they had a great selection of popup books as well as many childrens' classics.

This is an incredible place. One of the reasons I chose the neighborhood for my home in NYC is so that I would be near the Strand, and they are the reason I keep having to add bookshelves! Thank god they seem to be surviving, in no small part I’m sure due to the fact that they own the building.... More

What a wonderful selection of art books! The second floor has amazing variety and I could have spent hours there.

I discovered this place in 1999 and every time I go to NYC now visiting is a must! I love books and reading. You can find practically anything you want and can wander for hours.

I truly loved this book store, it is what you want in a bookstore, old, cramped and lots and lots of books. The only thing I would change is to have a few more seats. Really enjoyed the top level where they keep the rare books.
