This place was amazing, super cool place for perusing books, not the most organised book store which could be annoying if your going in there for a specific book but awesome nonetheless!

Huge selection of beautiful books suited for every price range. New, used and rare books, the store has something for everyone. They also sell excellent mementos and unusual and quirky gifts. The store is split over three levels and is very well organised. The staff are very friendly, especially for New York City and are happy to help. I have... More

Bookstores are sadly getting so rare, but The Strand Bookstore is my favorite bookstore in the world! If you love books then this place is a must-see. Their prices are very reasonable and the selection is amazing. Their shipping deal is awesome: I bought six big (and heavy) coffee table-size books on my recent trip, and to have Strand mail... On a recent trip back to NY, I was so happy to see the Strand surviving and seemingly thriving in the age of digital content. When I lived in Manhattan, perusing the $1-2 shelves outside (and usually the feature tables inside) was an almost daily occurrence. It was also my go-to spot for specific books. They still have the very... More

This is an amazing bookstore. It is to NYC what Powell's is to Portland. Come in with a list of what you want, or an idea of a topic area, it's not the most conducive to browsing. It is also best to get to the store early, around 10AM is typically best. My only mild issue is they charge, or... More

This is similar to Foyles in London. It is full of shelves after shelves of books. The staff are helpful and well informed and there is always the thrill of looking at the unclassified books to see what's there. Academically it is strong and the books are good. Long live real book shops!!! There is no children's play area. Result!

I was glad to find that my old favorite book store, perhaps the greatest bookstore I have ever known, is still thriving. It has been 25 years since I last was here, and I was not disappointed to see my old "friend" is still doing great. Long Live the Strand! If you have never been to NYC, this is a... More

I could of spent hours & hours here...it's brilliant for any book-lover. There were lots of old books as well as new plus lots of stationary to browse through! You won't be disappointed!
