i have been to many bookstores across the globe--this one has the rudest staff and are "NAZIS" when it comes to leaving the store. Staff has no sense of humour and terrible social skills. Basement staff is very helpful i must say, and upstairs staff are helpful, but Heaven forbod one should have more than 5 books in your cart... more

This place is wonderful. It's not just a bookstore, it's an American institution and a symbol of the city. You simply HAVE to go there, even if you don't like books. more

I was really excited to get to finally go to the 'worlds biggest used book store' and the shop itself doesnt disappoint one bit. i don't know what the last reviewer was looking at as Strand sells used books at a minimum of 50% off and more at even greater discounts. the only thing cheaper may be a flea market where the quality of titles offered are obviously less than that of the Strand. more

We visited the Strand April 6. On one hand it was by far the largest used book store I have ever encountered -- so big and sprawling that it is impossible to fully view all the sections. And with nowhere to sit, you quickly run out of steam.The downside is that the prices are really not that great for books... more
