Seriously! This is the best bookshop I have been to, and I have been to a fair few in several different countries. One of the things I like to do no matter where I go is to go to bookshops, even in the countries where English is not the main language. Because I love books. I am addicted to them.... More

The Strand is not "just" a bookstore. It is "the" bookstore. A veritable grand library where you can touch the books and feel the helpfulness of a staff that are book lovers too. This is worth the trip. It is also a part of getting to know why New Yorkers are such a different breed.

Excellent discounts, very complete, with a smart selection of the favorite books of some authors invited by the bookstore for choose and share their suggestions. Also they sell nerdy tshirts and some funny stuff for people who loves literature.

I used to live a few blocks away, and the Strand is a trip down memory lane. I've even gotten used to the refurbishing and the better light and air, as long as those stacks of books outside still hold $1 treasures.

Right! Miles and miles of bookselves filled from top of ceiling to ground. Check out the rare books collection on upper floors. Ask questions and the staff are all so knowledge. Keep one empty suit case for your return visit to NYC.

A huge collection, but not comprehensive so don't get huffy if sequel to a series you are reading isn't here. So worth it to discover new titles in a way you never really can online.

We hiked here from midtown and browsed awhile. Hubby and I found books and a John Lennon magnet for a gift. Checkout line moved quickly; enjoyable stop while visiting NYC!

This library is amazingly huge. Great location near Union Square. It's a dream come true for all the readers. And they sell the coolest totes. A must see !!

Wow! Love this book store. Wall to wall and floor to ceiling books. Three floors of new and used books. Loved the children's section. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Books not always at full price.

We stop at this great bookstore whenever we're in the city. They have a great selection of books about NYC. There are wonderful guide books, as well as great fiction and non-fiction about NYC. Most of the NYC-related books are set aside on tables near the information desk. Strand also has a great selection of gifts--their signature canvas totes in... More
