This is an incredible store, the way book stores should be. Miles of books, new and secondhand mingled together so you can see everything they have on a given subject. The signs say "Ask us" and they're not kidding - I asked several times for help finding different things and the staff were brilliant. It's the kind of welcoming store... More

The Strand is the type of bookstore you see in your dreams. Stacks of books on every genre, used and new, in these nearly claustrophobic shelves. There's so many books, the outside of the store has a line of reduced books on the street. You can find almost anything here. There are often signed editions of new books available. A... More

That's all I needed to hear - an independent bookstore with 18 miles of books! It was truly overwhelming inside - luckily they have little grocery carts for overeager shoppers like me. Any topic - they have it! Used, new, rare books, plus book-related gifts...and the Infinity Bench from The Fault in Our Stars! I just stumbled upon it in... More

I go to a lot of independent book stores in every city I live in and travel to; I buy books in all of them; and I love them all. But there's something about The Strand. It's more than just books. They must pump something into the air there that makes you more curious, interested, intrigued, intellectually adventurous. They organize... More

I always love visiting The Strand Bookstore. They have a great theatre section (both scripts and books about theatre). Books for all their sections include both new and used. The staff is great at looking up books for you on the computer, but you may need to ask for help in getting a ladder if the book you want is... More

Does this place have a coffee store? I think not. That is one of the things missed. Is really a nice place and is a must if you are a book lover. A beautiful bookstore, a foreign language section, the merchandising is cool, don't miss the basement.

What a wonderful book store...new and used books, antiquarian books, very nice layout. Multiple floors accessed by stairs or elevator...plan to stay at least a couple of hours!! Close to Union Square.

There is not much to say, books all over the place, really interesting topics and rare books as well, four floors in total. Make sure to check out the really cheap second hand books on the outside of the store, they have same old books and rare pieces over there.

This store is a book lover's dream. Every book (or so it seems) has a home in the Strand. I was with another book lover, and within 15 minutes after we split up to hunt for books he texted me saying, let's go! We each had five books in our arms.

We visited here whilst on vacation in NYC, we had read lots of good reviews before we came. It is definitely worth a visit, but honestly I found this place a little overwhelming, you could spend hours and hours in here and still have more to look at! For used books, they seemed a little overpriced, we wanted to buy... More
