Description: Most walking tours point and stare at New York-with Streetwise New York...
Most walking tours point and stare at New York-with Streetwise New York, you live it. We explore neighborhoods, recount history and study contrasts-uncovering the true New York, that's melted into pizza slices, hidden in subways, and carried in the ever-changing stories of its 8 million people. From the swankiest stretches of Fifth Avenue to the grimiest of graffitied alleys, we share tales passed down from our grandparents, gleaned from books, and whispered on street corners. While getting ready to head to NY for the first time I was hoping to find some local people to show me THEIR city, they way THEY see it, and I found EXACTLY that!!! Cool that the POD hotel offered this free, I would definitely pay the fee as it's WELL worth every penny. Learned a lot about local history,... More

The free walking tours offered courtesy of Pod Hotels is an awesome way to see the sights in New York. My first tour was of the meat packing district. I opted to do a second tour of Chinatown because of the quality. Patrick, our tour guide rocks! I highly recommend.

Our hotel, Pod 39, offered this free tour. We thought it would be ok. Wow! OUr expectations were blown away. Patrick was incredible. Not only is he amazingly knowledgeable, but he is very friendly and open. He made it very easy to ask questions and he always knew the answer. He did a great job of keeping our wandering group... My friend and I had limited time in New York. We wanted to take a tour, but not the "tourist" tour. Based on reviews, we decided to take a chance with Streetwise. It was one of the highlights of our trip! From the start, Dan was extremely responsive in helping us decide which tour would be best for us. We... More

Dan took us on a fantastic, informative, leisurely paced tour of areas of lower Manhattan away from the madness of Times Square. We visited areas that we would not have thought about visiting, and would have had difficulty finding. In 6 hours we had an introduction to riding the subway, visited Chelsea market, the High Line, Meatpacking district, Soho, Greenwich... More

Took a private tour (5 in group) with Andrew last week in Brooklyn and Williamsburg. The tour was customized to our needs/wants and had amazing food, which I'm still craving a few days later. Andrew was engaging, knowledgeable, and catered to our group. He made sure to drop us off where we needed to be to get to our next... More

I did 3 Streetwise Tours, and couldn't ask for a better way to start my first few days in New York. Lead by locals, at a comfortable and relaxed pace, with an easy-to-listen to dialogue about the history of the area and food, shops, and foto opportunities gems along the way... I love the less formal, more engaged style of... More

Went on a tour of Chelsea/Highline while staying at POD hotel. Andrew was great tour guide and took us to unique places. Fun and informative.

Great tour. Informative, relaxed, well paced tour by a competent, interesting and enthusiastic guide who made it come to life and clearly loves his city. Visit to jeff's music shop a further highlight! I will certainly do another tour next time. Many thanks to the streetwise team for their sincerity and energy. Well done and keep up the good work!!

New York is overflowing with things to do, many of which are easy to organise yourself. However, if you wish to experience something less touristy and get a feel for the real NYC, then we highly recommend one of Dan's tours. On 2 separate tours early on in our family holiday Dan showed us the real Manhattan and Brooklyn -... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.
