Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well. All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price, but food and drinks are extra. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged. Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years. Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city by luxury limousine - starting late and ending early to catch the scene at it's most exciting, or during the day to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods with an insider. Other public tours include sets at New York's most exclusive jazz clubs to hear the living legends of jazz any night of the week.

We are 9 months late writing this review (hopefully my wife wrote one before this), but we had a great time on the Jazz Tour. The night was a snowy one, and we chose to walk but had a great time. The only reason it is not 5 stars is it would have been fun to have a few more... More

We met Gordon who was to be our guide for the night. He took us to Harlem on the subway. The first club was the Shrine where as well as good jazz we were able to get some food. Next we went to Paris Blues which was the highlight of the night. I think most of the party could have... More

After three nights of Broadway shows - The Harlem Juke Joint Tour capped off the last night our first mother and (adult) daughter NYC trip with a bang. Although I booked this tour with Gordon on the recommendation of a friend months ago, we knew he had a scheduling conflict and thankfully he lined us up with Amazing Amanda. She... More

We spent a wonderful evening with Gordon, exploring 3 perfect clubs in Harlem. Gordon was an excellent host with a lot of "secret" information about jazz history in NYC. He also gave us a tip for "Harlem renaissance", book we finally find at Barnes &Noble.

What a fantastic jazz tour in Harlem ! Gordon was very entertaining, informative & relaxed. We visited 3 different clubs, all a little different, but our favorite 'Paris Blues' saved till last.... Gordon even took the subway home with us (it was about midnight by the time we left) to ensure we all felt safe and didn't get lost in... More

We spent a week in NYC and had two evenings with Big Apple Jazz Tour. We visited three clubs in Greenwich Village first evening and three clubs in Harlem second evening. The clubs in Greenwich Village are close together, in Harlem we had to walk ten minutes from club to another club. While walking, we heard much of the jazz... More

Did this tour with Gordon on Sunday 12th April 2015 an absolute delight. Wasn't quite sure what to expect but didn't disappoint. Gordon took us to three clubs playing a range of jazz and in between travelling to clubs he imparted his great knowledge of jazz and the Harlem area. The tour involves using the subways,a taxi and walking but... More

During a recent visit to New York we had a most excellent time visiting jazz related spots in Harlem. Our son, who accompanied us, had arranged to have Gordon meet us at the Apollo Theater and do a walking/cab-riding tour with stops at places we, as jazz-lovers, had heard about for years. In addition to the plaque where Billie Holliday... More

Thanks, Betty. It was great meeting you and the family. I love that you all had such a deep interest in the history of jazz in NYC and Harlem in particular; and were willing to race around everywhere to hear the stories and see where history was made and will hopefully always be honored. And I loved hearing about your... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
