Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well. All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price, but food and drinks are extra. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged. Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years. Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city by luxury limousine - starting late and ending early to catch the scene at it's most exciting, or during the day to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods with an insider. Other public tours include sets at New York's most exclusive jazz clubs to hear the living legends of jazz any night of the week.

I took my college student nephew on a NYC trip. I really wanted him to have a cool music scene experience and the Big Apple Jazz Tour in the Village was perfect. We visited three clubs all with their own jazz style. Our tour guide Amanda knew everybody at the clubs - we were ushered in and seated - no waiting... More

A wonderful evening in Hatlem which happily stretched into the early morning under the good care of our Tour Guide Amanda. Great to be moving through different venues with like-minded people. If you like real jazz don't miss this.

Gordon's knowledge of New York Jazz history is amazing. The music and venues were wonderful! The two aspects make this a must tour!

Amanda was our guide last week for the Harlem Jazz Tour. Communication prior to the tour is excellent, and she looks just like her picture! She explained everything, and off we went. Starting at the Apollo (exteriors only) we got some sense of what Harlem and 125th St. must have been like. Then it was off to a very nondescript... More

Great tour. Gordon is really ingrained in the scene and gave us a great insight. Highly recommended for Jazz fans visiting NY. Venues varied from community to cool and the jazz was always good.

I have lived in NY for over 9 years and had never done an "official" jazz tour until last year, when I was gifted a tour with Big Apple Jazz, with Gordon as our tour guide. The experience was so phenomenal that I decided to relay the gift to my father as a retirement present. Although we saw a completely... More

I took this tour with my husband and two college kids. We expected great music but were also exposed to the history and culture that Harlem offers. My husband and I are originally from the Chicago subarbs but have lived in Salt Lake City for the past 30 years. The welcoming attitudes from all whom we encountered was such a... More

We are 9 months late writing this review (hopefully my wife wrote one before this), but we had a great time on the Jazz Tour. The night was a snowy one, and we chose to walk but had a great time. The only reason it is not 5 stars is it would have been fun to have a few more... More

We met Gordon who was to be our guide for the night. He took us to Harlem on the subway. The first club was the Shrine where as well as good jazz we were able to get some food. Next we went to Paris Blues which was the highlight of the night. I think most of the party could have... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
