Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well. All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price, but food and drinks are extra. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged. Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years. Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city by luxury limousine - starting late and ending early to catch the scene at it's most exciting, or during the day to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods with an insider. Other public tours include sets at New York's most exclusive jazz clubs to hear the living legends of jazz any night of the week.

This tour was one of the most outstanding my wife and I have enjoyed. Briefly, we visit New York from California about every 18 months or so, for theater and art. It was somewhat frustrating that we never heard any of the great performance art in the City. I went to Trip Advisor two days before our scheduled departure, found... More

I always love those experiences, when you get far more than what you expected - this happened at the jazz tour with Gordon. What I thought we would see is a few jazz clubs, and listen to some great music. It all happened, but in addtition, we got great background information on several aspect of Harlem and a guide, who... I wasn't sure what to expect but my daughter and I loved every minute of this tour. Gordon once owned a jazz club in Harlem so his passion for the local jazz and his knowledge of how both the music and the area has developed over the years, including the discovery of names such as Billy Holiday, made for a... We had a fantastic night with Gordon on his Harlem Juke Joint Tour. Over the course of about 5 1/2 hours we visited 3 very different clubs, walked some of the more interesting streets of Harlem and experienced some great music. We learnt about the history of Jazz in Harlem and also saw and learnt about some of the threats... More

Ok, so I write a lot of reviews for TripAdvisor. I also research a ton before going anywhere... and Big Apple Jazz Tours was one of those. The other reviews and BAJT's rating truly speak for themselves, but let me give you a view from my incredible experience. Met up with Gordon at the designated meeting place, greeted us all... More

We really enjoyed our evening learning about Harlem and enjoying great jazz music. It was fantastic to see the Apollo theater and some of the murals from Franco the Great. It was great to see 3 different clubs and meet some of the locals who work at some of these bars. We loved getting to know Barbara (our bartender) and... More

My daughter and I went with a small group from Australia and Canada. It was the highlight of our trip to New York. Gordon was full of great info about Harlem and Jazz, and opened us up to what Harlem and Jazz was and still is in New York. We felt welcomed everywhere we went, and made some new friends.

Gordon was a very knowledgeable guide. We enjoyed the 3 clubs we visited. All of which were very different and a good overview of the Greenwich jazz scene. Would do another tour with him next time in NY!

Our group included a couple who has lived in Harlem for several years and a person who has produced hundreds of jazz shows in another city, and Gordon still turned us on to venues we were unaware of, including several that had no music our night out but which we plan to visit in the future. Gordon customized the arc... More

It was tremendous fun taking you around on Saturday. Thanks so much for the nice review. I love the challenge of showing New Yorkers and big jazz fans something that they may not be aware of - particularly in their own neighborhood. The scene is shifting all the time and it's impossible to keep up unless that's your only focus... More

My husband and I went on the Harlem Jazz Juke Joint Tour as a part of a 4-day trip to New York for our wedding anniversary. It was absolutely my favorite part of our trip. Advertised as a 3-hour tour, we spent almost 6 hours in the company of the fabulous Ms. Amanda. Taking almost every possible form of conveyance... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
