Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well. All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price, but food and drinks are extra. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged. Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years. Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city by luxury limousine - starting late and ending early to catch the scene at it's most exciting, or during the day to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods with an insider. Other public tours include sets at New York's most exclusive jazz clubs to hear the living legends of jazz any night of the week.

Four of us took the Great Day in Harlem tour which lasted from 2:00 to past 7:00 pm. During this time, a bus took us around Harlem. Gordon was knowledgeable, with interesting information and stories about the jazz greats, venues, and events of Harlem. Amanda, our other guide, added a lot of pizzazz. We were introduced to three very different... More

Sent my 72 year old uncle, my brother in law and my husband (both in their late 30s) and they all had a great time - so much so, I'm pretty sure it was the highlight of the entire trip! They raved about Amanda, and how colorful a character she was and how she was very knowledgeable and just a... More

Amanda treated our group to a view of Jazz we would never have experienced otherwise. Interesting locations and fun, talented people. Curious now to try a more history laden tour through BigApple Jazz tours. Next time, perhaps.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Your group was amazing! The drill team was so talented and hard working - I was in awe of them. The parents and teachers were a treat as well. Brought my high school jazz vocalists to NYC this weekend and had the very best day in Harlem with Gordon and Big Apple Jazz tours. I was surprised by my fiancée with a tour of Big Apple Jazz venues. We visited a few places in the Village and learned about the history of Jazz in NYC and different types of places to visit. Gordon was both enthusiastic and authentic. I would recommend this tour for both out of town tourists, Jazz enthusiasts and New Yorkers... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
