Greenwich Village is a great place to shop, eat, drink, and people watch. No trip to NYC is complete without a visit to the Village!

I've lived in Greenwich Village for about 20 years. This is a neighbourhood famous around the world as a place or art, politics and, well, what's happening. Starting with the Bloomberg administration with Christine Quinn the city has turned the Village over to developers to destroy historic buildings and replace them with condos for the super rich and to NYU... Over the years this area of Manhattan has gone through a phase of regeneration. Now, this is a beautiful place to visit. Full of little boutique shops and local markets and cafés, you would not think you are in Manhattan. It has the feel of a small country town and is a great deal quieter that the hustle and bustle... We walked around most of the NY Times recommended walking tour - starting from 8th/14th, had lunch at the Tavern on Jane, headed down Bleeker St to Grove, along Grove.... This is a pleasant part of NYC to walk around, and for much of the time the streets were tree lined with very little traffic. It is definitely not as... More

My teens found it boring, we did not spend a lot of time there. We did have dessert at Rocco's. This is probably a better place for adults to relax and wander through the streets. It is clean and there does not appear to be a lot of homeless.

We saw the village by accident as was on a Grayline bus when the man doing the talk said Johns pizza shop was the best in New York so we got off and went for a meal. It was lovely and we got the chance to look around too

There was a band playing and people dancing in Washington Square. It was nice walking through the streets.

With just a quick ride on one of the blue line trains, you find yourself in a trendy area with lots of cultures! We had pizza at an organic pizza Italian restaurant! Would go here again, any day!

Greenwich Village is always amazing. Any day, any month, every year. The eclectic mix of people and interesting shops and small little restaurants make it special. Window shopping is fun here. I like shopping & dining in the Village and Soho more than Midtown.

A very friendly and interesting area - especially after being in mid-Manhattan where no one had time for you. Restaurants and coffee shops abound and window shopping in galleries was a joy. Next time I shall try and stay in this area rather than Chelsea.
