We took a self guided tour around Greenwich village following a visit to Chelsea Market/the High Line. The area is very relaxed & different to the hustle & bustle of certain parts of NYC. It was good to stroll around & see some of the former haunts of artists/poets/beatniks etc. There are some interesting shops, restaurants, etc. Well worth a... More

The neighborhood is very nice, there are not tall buildings and people resident is mostly young. There are many restaurants and bars. You must visit this neighborhood if you go to Manhattan. In the South of Greenwich Village is located the famous pizza place, Joe's Pizza, on Carmine Street.

Vibrant neighborhood....very accessible, lots of mini neighborhoods inside one big one. Many wonderful places to eat...all prices and types of cuisine, great history and walking streets;terrific for sitting and people watching, lots of small shops, great jazz. The West Village which ends at the Hudson River offers spectacular walks along the river, with lots if little places to sit and... More

So much activity at Washington Square Park, right at this arch. Great for sitting and watching people of all countries go by. NYU college students,, actors, tourists. Maybe catch a band playing and toss them some coins. Listen to the many accents. Watch people playing chess or kids playing in the playground. Many times they are filming a movie at... More

If you are looking for the feel of the 60's you are decades too late. It is still interesting to walk around here but I wouldn't spend to much time here especially if your time in NYC is limited

Greenwich Village is my favorite part of the city. Take time to walk along the side streets and visit a small cafe. Day or night, it's so lovely!

This park is a good rest stop...good to rest after a long walk and just simply people watch all the interesting characters that walk by...depending when you go they have people playing...protesting...street entertainers...there are plenty of restaurants around in case you become hungry.

Greenwich Village and Washington Square Park are well worth a visit if you want to take a walking tour of Lower Manhattan. Read about them in your tour guide before you visit so you can understand where you are and what you are seeing. Close to art galleries, shops and restaurants. Many movies were filmed here. You might even see... More

Food is amazing here - so much choice. Music great and also comedy (but if you want the comedy cellar, make sure you book in advance). There's so much to do here. New York at its best!

Enjoy the neighbourhood of students, old residents, artists of all hues and the quiet hum in the daytime and ethnic authentic food joints around. The prestigious New York Univ is at the heart of this area and somewhat shapes it.

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
