If you remember the movies...."A Miracle on 34th Street" the General Post Office in New York received many letters addressed to Santa Claus. This proved that Santa Claus existed. The building itself is architecturally stunning. It is more like a caste or a palace. It seems like it was built to reflect the grandeur and influence of a New York... More

The James A. Farley Post Office is a stunning building that will delight those with an interest in architecture, history and photography. The building just lends itself to photography and inside is not just a beautiful post office but there is also a little museum, and I do mean little. There is no cost though, and you only need 5... In the first days of our stay in New York, we wanted to send some nice post cards from this magnificent city. Happily our hotel "Pennsylvania" was not so far from this representative building, that is, Post Office Building. It is located in 8th Avenue between 31Str and 33Str. In my point of view, the building is beautifully designed and constructed, as... More

My sister and I had 4 boxes to post to Australia - after we lugged cases up the steps to the main New York Post Office, we started to make up boxes. Eric (bless him) explained to us we were using the wrong ones (fortunately before we had spent half an hour making them up). He then got us the... More

The bus dropped me off right outside, and I had an hour to kill, waiting for a friend to arrive in the area. An interesting place to spend 5-10 minutes, but very little of the building is accessible to the public (and the museum part was closed the Saturday I visited). Certainly don't go out of your way to see... More

This really is a most impressive building and worth a visit inside to see what it has to offer. Everything is on such a grand scale it is hard to believe this is a post office. It is more like a grand exhibition structure.

The waiting line moved very rapidly and the desk person took care of my needs in a very friendly and efficient manner. Would use this Post Office again and it is close to the Hotel.

The ceiling of the Farley Post Office in Manhattan is a trip into the past as well as a place to buy stamps. It was built in 1912 and opened in 1914, so it was born into a very different world than today. On the ceiling you will find the imperial coats-of-arms of the Empire of Germany, the Empire of... As this is so close to the hotel, it's worth a look inside. Soak up the atmosphere of the green lamps and wrought iron decor.
