Governor's Island is a short ferry ride away from downtown Manhattan. The ferry leaves from nearby the Staten Island ferry terminal (but note, it's not the same building). The ferry ride is pretty and a nice escape from the hectic life of NYC. However, there isn't much to do once you get to Governors Island. Primarily, it's just nice to... More

You can reach the island through the ferry at south ferry paying 2 dollars per adult. This is a beautiful place to walk and using the bike. There are many chairs for a stop but what I found unbearable is the noise of helicopters. You try to escape from the noise of the NYC traffic finding the noise of helicopters........ More

Interesting place to visit! It was just a few dollars for the boat, and we accidentally visited during a jazz festival, so it was full of people dressed in roaring twenties costumes! Unique, memorable experience.

This is a island just 15 minutes away from CBD Wall street. As you know, New York is busy all the time and so many people all the time, but what a surprised, it is only 15 mins away from the CBD, I arrive to a very quite and beautiful place. It is so much different than the city but... More

Governor's Island is a wonderful, relaxing get-away from the city. For residents of the 5 boroughs, who want to feel like they're getting a mini-vacation, it's perfect. You can bike (or surrey) by the water, relax in hammocks, enjoy artwork, open spaces and more. But, for tourists just visiting New York, it may not be quite as exciting.

This was my first time back to the Island this year, I was accompanied by my friends 14 yr. old daughter who is planning to go to the Harbor School. She had never been there to visit the attractions and is a fan of the 1920's. We had the best time, especially liked the Sculpture Garden and reading how each... More

A tranquil island a short ferry ride from lower Manhattan. It is a work in progress. Nice peaceful walks with great views of lower Manhattan. Be sure to take one of the Park Rangers tours (free). There are pleasant cafes to have a snack or drink. You can rent Citi bikes on the island or rent one before you go... More

I went on openning weekend this summer and was very disappointed. There was supposed to be a festival with food etc but the food trucks all had ridiculous long lines and after waiting on line for more then half an hour I had to move on. People that had been there before all stated that in years past it was... More

This may be the best two dollars you spend on your visit to NYC. The island has several environments for your to explore from the hammock garden, sculpture park, fort and various pop-up boutique style shops. The overall feel on the island is tranquility, whilst most of the buildings are uninhabited they are not derelict. Its like visiting a deserted... More
