I think it was a bit overrated, heard a lot about it before and it's some pretty and fun things to look at (also people) but not a place that i would hang out at.

We spent most of the afternoon at Central Park and walked around Fifth to shop a bit. We stopped by the Lindt Chocolate Store just to look and ended up buying lots of chocolate candies. This is definitely a great place to shop in. One can never be bored in this area. It is very pleasant to the senses. If... More

I walked down 5th avenue and enjoyed the atmosphere and seeing the shops and coffee shops etc. Street is very crowded and most shops to expensive to buy anything, but with the name 5th avenue as a tourist you do have to walk down and see.

5th Ave is totally overrated when it comes to shopping in my opinion. Yes, all the expensive brands are there, but what a shopping experience if you come out of a shop and the amount of people is just insane, the noise levels are outrageous and the traffic gives you difficulties to breath. I would rather shop online.

I experienced fifth avenue on a very cold winters day, with wind-chill it was minus 20 and the harsh wind cutting through me really wasn't helping me enjoy this world famous shopping street. I didn't visit NYC to shop,it was for its beautiful gothic architecture, world famous museums and landmarks, and fifth avenue gave me all that and more. You can see why... More

Let’s say you find yourself on Fifth Avenue (notice, it’s always spelled with a word, not number) and 42nd Street. I did not pick this location arbitrarily, to me Fifth Ave North and South of this location are two different streets. Go up on the Avenue (North) and high-end fashion stores will fight for your attention: Armani, Abercombie & Fitch,... More

The section that is around to Central Park is very famous for many landmarks: shops, hotels, museums. A spectacular underground Applestore is built at the corner of the Park that you can visit days and night. It is a great pleasure to walk down the avenue.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
