Disney, Toys R Us and FAO Schwarz for the holy trinity of toystores of Manhattan. And I ensured I visit all of them. Thus store is supposed to be the oldest in US, though currently I think it is being operated by Toys R Us. This place is like a wonderland too, and it does not matter whether you are... More

I think I heard this is the oldest toy store in New York!! It had super fantastic toys made with great care (you don't see them just anywhere) and it really makes your imagination run wild and remind you of your childhood days. (Even if you're 19 like me!)

As soon as i walked through those doors i felt like a child again. I never seen a toy store anything like it. My boyfriend and i came here and we spent over an hour just going around taking pictures and playing with the toys. It was a store i will never forget.

We booked 'breakfast with a toy soldier' and it was the best fun ever! Our daughter had the time of her life running around the store with hardly anyone else around. We all got to have a lolly grab and filled up our lolly bags with all sorts of sweet treats, a tour of the store before it opens to... More

If you're visiting New York with children of any age they will definitely appreciate the FAO Schwarz store for you love you. Don't miss the giant piano upstairs that you can walk around on and have it play music. Yes the prices are pretty steep but just walking around and looking at everything is worth it you don't even have... More

We all love this toy store and are sad to see it closing! I hope it does reopen at a different location.

Loved visiting the Toy Shop which I understand is to close, glad I got the opportunity to see it although a bit in the expensive side it was amazing and got to see the Piano Tom Hanks jumped on in the film Big

I promised my son to take him to this place after finding out about it through trip adviser, and thought that it is one of the kids wonderland ... but unfortunately we discovered from Google maps when I was trying to identify the location that it is permanently closed!

Turns out they have closed. Rumer has it that they were paying 15M$ a year rent so they closed, maybe they will open elsewhere. I'll miss them. It definitely was an amazing place!

We visited FAO Schwartz on its the last day, July 15th. It was sad to see all of the children enjoying the store only to realize that its famous doors where Tom Hanks played Chopsticks on the floor piano would be closing for good.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
