Written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paul Green, The Lost Colony tells the story of the first English settlers in the New World and Sir Walter Raleigh’s Roanoke Voyages. Featuring lavish costumes designed by five time Tony Award winner William Ivey Long and directed by Robert Richmond. Since 1937, the story of 117 men, women and children who vanished without a trace more than 400 years ago comes to life summer nights at the open air Waterside Theatre. « less

I think it's funny how the lowest reviews are from folks who admittedly visited during the off season. It's also quite telling that most of them are from up North and others from out-of-state. Listen Jersey et all, as I realize you're used to boozing it up at all the trashy bars with neon lights, and used to the non-stop,... More

But this place is one of the richest history places in the US. One of the original colonies in the US, and want a huge let down we had visiting this park. You get a short little film, that tells a very cleanzed story of the Lost Colony. There is also a tiny small museum of drawings, and maps, etc.... More

The Lost Colony is the longest-running outdoor play in America. Its fun and entertaining with whooping natives and fabulous costumes. Actors stage fights, shoot blanks, and run around, popping in and out unpredictably. In other words, it was fun for two young kids who wouldn't normally enjoy a play. So if you've been to the Outer Banks before but have... More

In February, there is not a lot to see here. Movie presentation was good, exhibits were interesting, but I think it would be a lot more interesting when the live reenactments are going on in the regular seasons. More

This is my second visit to the Lost Colony, the first visit being in the late 70s. They have managed to keep the show fresh and very entertaining. The actors were very good. Educational as well - it prompted a great dicussion on the early English settlement with the youngster in our group. More

This is a MUST for anyone visiting the Outer Banks. Many of us locals go every year, as it is always a little different each year. The theatre is really cool. It is outside, right near the actualy site of the lost colony. More

We're sorry you were here in our off season. The play generally runs June-August. While our office is open year round with some very small exhibits on the history of the show, our busines is producing the play. If you have not seen the show, then oyu have not experienced our product...only our physical location. I hope you can make... More

We had high hopes for this show, set in at the harbor, with wonderful costumes and scenery. But from the moment the indians come prancing in perfectly sewn suede bikinis and loin clothes you knew that this was not going to be an authentic history experience. I'm a great fan of musicals and can see promise in any show, but... More
