Experience life as it was before the Civil War. Join interpreters dressed in period attire as they carry out the daily activities of a Roanoke Island farm in the 1850s. Hands-on activities and demonstrations: Woodworking, cooking, blacksmithing, children's games and ox-drawn wagon rides are just a few activities offered. Activities vary daily. Open seasonally from April to November - Wednesday through Saturday - 10am until 4pm.

This place and the staff were amazing! It's really an old world look at farming on the island. Our whole family (me, hubby, and kids ages 6 and 9) really enjoyed our visit here. There's a farm house tour, old style games the kids got to play with staff dresses in colonial attire. My kids got to help "wash" clothes... More

We spent our last two summers vacationing in the outer banks; these two times are the only times we have ever visited. The best thing about the area is there is such a wide variety of things to do. This place, the Island Farm, is awesome. It takes about 2 hours to visit. When we visited, it wasn't crowded at... More

Very enjoyable, historically accurate, well done. Would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. We enjoyed the ox cart ride with "Charlie" and the excellent response we received from those folks working the farm.

This is a lovely place on Roanoke Island and we visited with our 3 children who so enjoyed the gentleman who played the banjo and spent time with the children. We returned to take a ride on the oxen cart and were disappointed that this very entertaining gentleman is no longer employed. Too bad, as this was a very entertaining... More

This small historically accurate farm is perfect for all ages. It would be just as fun to come and visit alone as it would be with family and friends. The property is really peaceful & green, with well kept animal pastures and beautiful large old and sprawling oak trees. The farm is well tended by the husband and wife caretakers.... More

Liked this even more than the Elizabethan Gardens, which were fabulous as well. The Farm is so well done, and informative for anyone of any age. The friendly roaming chickens eat from your hands. The staff are beyond friendly. For part of our visit, there was an informal tour being given for a small middle school group who had slight... More

A wonderful historical farm. Everyone was in period costume and very, very friendly. They each took time to talk with us and answer any questions we had about the farm and daily life during that period of time. Every one we met seemed to really enjoy what they were doing, which to us, means a lot. We look forward to... More

My husband I love historical sites. The "Island Farm" opened after our last trip to OBX. What a find! I can't say enough about the farm and it's staff. We were only there for a few hours but I could stay all day. Now granted we visited during the off-season so we virtually had the place to ourselves. The peace... More

Even though we didn't have children with us, you could tell this would be a great place for kids to visit. The costumed interpreters were very friendly and full of information.

Good to go somewhere which is virtually gimmick free. A real insight into the past. Do not go there if you are looking for bouncy castles!
