We pulled into the parking lot and my daughter dubiously asked - - Is this supposed to be about learning something today? We went in and were immediately taken with the sandbag swing hanging from a tree; one of the caretakers in period clothing came out to show us how it was done. Everyone had a ball trying it out.... It was a hot muggy summer day when I took my grandchildren, but that's what the original inhabitants had to endure so it was more realistic. Absolutely authentic in every way. I would like to have dressed like the staff and participated in their activities of running the farm for one day, then spending the night in the farmhouse! Reliving... More

Visited the Island Farm with my husband while he attended his Blacksmith Guild meeting. I could of stayed all day ! loved the chickens pecking in the ground and and the friendliness of the staff. Charlene told us everything about the 'living history farm'...very informative. She had beans and cornbread ready for all to taste. Definitely will return with our... More

Recently visited the Island Farm on a trip to NC. While it is off season other places in NC, this is a year round attraction. We first arrived in the morning, and found 170 school children roaming the farm. We opted to have lunch and return when the children had left for the day. When we returned, we were literally... More

Warning-Cash only, but not too expensive. The fee was $6 per adult in 2013. The staff makes every effort to engage the children in activities. There is a wagon ride and candle making (a small taper to take home) and era games as well as the house and out buildings to explore. Only negative were the mosquitoes. You could even... More

My absolute favorite thing to do!!! A step back in time. The staff was absolutely the nicest people I met (and we met a lot of nice people) throughout our vacation. They were very informative about the restored buildings, the Etheridge Family (who owned the farm) the livestock and how things were done "way back then." It was so much... More

Great place. I went in with very low expectations. Not sure what we were going to see. Pleasantly Surprised by the Island Farm. Very interesting place. Nice to take a step back in time. Will definitely go there again!

We stopped here after all the National Parks were shut down and we had to decide on other tourist sites and I am sure glad we did. It was awesome. The people that were there where so friendly and informative. I learned alot about how things were done back then including how hot a kitchen can get when there is... More

A great living history farm that is well worth the time to stop and visit. Authentically restored buildings with costumed interpreters make this a fun and informative visit. We strolled along the grounds and visited with the sheep, free ranging chickens, and oxen. Saw the pumpkin patch with scarecrow. Good demonstration of old fashioned hearthside cooking. Many buildings to explore... More

We enjoyed Island farm with our two toddlers. They got to feed the chickens and look for eggs in the chicken coop, then deliver them to the cookhouse. There is nothing that they can't touch or go. It was nice to not have to say no all day long. We had the privilege of taking a hay ride with the... More
