The trip around Great Island is a journey into history and beauty. Read up on the history before going. Great place to pack a lunch and blanket and stop on the Island for lunch and a swim in summer.

who doesn't love the romance a mysterious colonial era tavern? the problem is that on a hot day your walking over mostly sandy terrain with actually limited beach access-one entrance to beach is at very beginning, then you can't access water for another 3-4 miles. hot, buggy, treacherous. i didn't love.

Hike along sand dunes, marsh, and beach all with the Cape Cod Bay as a backdrop. Great views, lot's of nature (birds, seals, fox, turtles) to see along the way. A very relaxing hike.

About a 30-40 min. walk. Bring good foot ware as the trail goes from soft to hard. Also insect repellent is not a bad idea as ticks are a problem on Cape Cod.

You can pick up the trail at either the parking lot at the intersection of Chequesett Neck and Griffin Island Road, or continue to the end of Chequessett Neck if you have a Wellfleet beach sticker. The trail is sandy for the first part, then becomes woods if you follow it straight through the island. We hiked on a very... More

I loved this hike for it's unique experience. I've gone hiking in the greater NewYork area at several different locations and this hike was a completely different experience. you're basically hiking through sand the entire time and for alarge part of it you're surrounded by a forest and the terrain is still sandy. the Sand Dunes are gorgeous and the... This is 2-3 hour hike in the dunes in the woods and finally to the beach. Bring plenty of water/sun screen/bug spray and comfortable shoes. Its an excellent way to experience the natural beauty of Cape Cod!

My boyfriend and I hiked this in Spring 2014. Perhaps trail maintenance hadn't been performed yet for the year, but in several places the trail was obscured and signage was either missing or drifted over with sand. We ended up using a basic trail map and GPS on our phones to navigate. All that being said, it was a great... More

The trail was lovely, but was missing signage in one key area, and tricky to navigate in spots due to walking through beach sand. We saw lots of birds and discovered where baby crabs come from. This is a beautiful wooded/salt marsh, so be sure to bring binoculars!

This hike takes you from the forest to the bay to the beach and back. Bring water and snacks and enjoy. Make sure you check the tides so you don't have to hurry. The sand crabs were everywhere so you have to be very careful as you walk through thier habitat. Son't forget the sunscreen and maybe bug spray.
