Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

First an important Note: A number of the reviews here are NOT reviews of the company, "Canyon de Chelly Tours" owned by Leon Thomas, which is the company these reviews are supposed to be about. For example, if a company uses a truck, it's not this company. I urge you to check out the company's website which is excellent. At... More

My nine year old daughter and I were travelling in the southwest and booked a last minute tour with Canyon de Chelly Tours and had an incredible time. We met Calvin, our guide, at the visitors center and hopped in his open jeep to begin our tour. My daughter was thrilled as we splashed through the wash into the valley.... More

Our guide Francine was very informative and fun to be with. She pointed out many points of interest and drove through the river with skill. She grew up in the canyon so was able to tell us about what life was like as a child in the canyon. I only wish we would have had time to visit Spider rock... More

Today we had the pleasure of taking a private (family of 3) tour with Leone as our guide not only through the breathtakingly beautiful Canyon de Chelly, but also through the Navajo ways, both past and present. Starting with our first splash crossing of the "wash" with our SUV, and ending with a detailed description of Navajo/Spanish battles, we saw... More

We were three women traveling together and lucked out in getting Leone. Not only is she a fascinating, articulate, well-educated woman in her own right, her historical knowledge and personal memories of the Canyon de Chelley and its special places was amazing. Detailed, rich, professional, with humor and insight. We felt incredibly lucky to have gotten her. Can't recommend her... More

Definitely take a canyon tour. Definitely go with the tours managed by Leon Skyhorse Thomas. We had an absolutely incredible time with no problems except being overwhelmed by all there was to see. Leone Thomas (Leon's sister) was our guide. Leone picked us up and the visitor center on time, dropped us off on time and gave us an incredible... More

We took a 4 hour tour with Leon Skyhorse Thomas and it was great. He was an amazing guide and, as he is Navajo, gave us a true lesson on the culture and history and fully described all the ruins, pictographs, and petroglyphs. He made it fun and adventurous but at all times safe. The canyon itself is beautiful and... More

We were in Chinle for just under 24 hours, and had driven through part of the south rim prior to our guided tour with Leon and Francine of Canyon de Chelly Tours. The trip through the canyon floor was unbelievable. If you are only driving around the north or south rim, you are missing the main attraction. The guided tour... More
