Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

Owned by Leon Thomas, ask for a guide by the name of Harris Hardy. A Navajo raised in the valley, very bright and well versed. We felt as if we were listening to a lecture from a college professor, he is that knowledgeable and well spoken, and pleasant too! We took a four wheel tour of the valley that included... More

My husband and I have done both the rim drive which stops at different places at the top of the canyon. We have also hired a Navajo guide to take us to the bottom of the canyon and the difference between the two is amazing. There is so much history here and you can really get a feel for the... More

CANYON de CHELLY NATIONAL MONUMENT PART II-THE CANYON RIMS (ARIZONA’S HIDDEN BYWAYS II) Look down upon a serene land, a very ancient place, where time has stood still. This is an area where the wind whispers through the trees and the red rock cliffs tell tales of long forgotten times. A place where the people live as their ancestors have... More

Chinle is a little off the beaten path (I got lost on the way there) but it is well worth the trip and Canyon de Chelly Tours is well worth the money for the tour. Our guide, Perry, was very knowledgeable and the tour was so much more than just some commercial promotion of a landmark. We learned historical facts... More

Wife and I (seniors) scheduled a 3 hour tour on the internet and we were pleasantly surprised with an excellent tour that exceeded our expectations. Our Navajo guide, Davison, was patient and answered all of our inquiries. Davison obviously enjoyed his work and we were the beneficiaries of his knowledge and insights. After you drive the South rim, we would... More

I scheduled a 1pm tour. Online it says there's a special to pay cash and get reduced costs. But to make the reservation online, I had to have a credit card. I didn't ask later, and there was no mention of a discount when I got there. I drove up from Phoenix. In Summer, you have to be careful with... More

Everything from start to finish was excellent. Dealing with Irene to set up the tour was great. It was nice to meet her in person. Our guide was Orlando. We could not have had a better guide. He is extremely knowledgeable having gained that knowledge by growing up in the canyon and tribal elders. We enjoyed his his stories and... More

From the first phone conversation to meeting in the parking lot this morning, our adventures started. Leone, Leon's sister was fabulous. Her knowledge of her Navajo heritage along with delightful stories entertained us for 4 hours. A private ride in a hummer is the only way to see the valley. She is so proud of her culture and happy to... More

Our drive through Canyon de Chelly had some wonderful pullouts for stopping and taking loads of pictures. (The scenery is great!) But, beware: there are locals at a number of these pullouts selling their crafts. They were not bothersome to us, just trying to make a living, I guess.

This is what owner Leon Thomas said when we called after waiting 30 min. last Wed, Oct 15, 2014 for pick up. He then said, "I don't care if you didn't get picked up, I run 10 times the jeep tours than anyone else and I don't need your business." When we asked asked again why he didn't pick us... More
