Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

Well worth your time!

Although Irene was most accommodating and pleasant to work with in arranging our tour, we were very disappointed in the quality of our tour. I won't name the tour guide, but after the first set of pictographs/petroglyphs, he mostly seemed to be biding his time until the tour was over. We had hoped that the guides would be a wealth... This is kind of good news/bad news. Both the best way and the only way to truly see the canyon is via a tour. There are probably 15 'authorized' tour operators and the Navajo, perhaps rightly so, have the monopoly on those tours. There is no negotiating on rates and in my opinion 3 hours is too little time to... More

Irene was our guide and I am very thankful for the great tour she gave us. The jeep tour was fun (driving thru puddles of recent rain), set in amazing landscape, and Irene was a knowledgeable experienced Navajo Canyon de Chelley guide eager to share and answer all our questions. She was flexible, gave us a few options on possible... More

Unlike many of the tour companies, Ancient Tours is owned and operated by the same individual who conducts the tours, Oscar, and the other guide is Delbert and both are directly involved with the canyon and direct descendants of the Navajo that returned after Kit Carson's genocidal actions against them in which more than 15,000 men, women and children were... We toured the Canyon with our Navajo guide, Leone, with Leon Skyhorse Tours. If you use this company, please check back and verify you have a guide. When I checked back, Leon told me to meet Irene at the front of Sacred Canyon Lodge. The front desk saved us by calling Irene and checking with her. She knew nothing about... More

Harris, our tour guide, provided an excellent 5 hour private tour of the south canyon floor, traveling to Spider Rock. Harris had lived in the canyon, had moved away and then returned. Harris is quite knowledgeable of Indian culture, the early movement of the people from Asia to America, and the geology of the area. I would highly recommend Harris... More

We spent four fascinating hours with Francine and enjoyed every minute. She is an interesting and knowledgeable guide who sprinkled the history of the canyon with personal stories of time spent in the canyon as a child with her grandmother. We highly recommend her. Thank you, Francine.

Guided tour of Canyon De Chelly with Harris from Canyon De Chelly Tours was excellent. Harris grew up in the canyon with his paternal grandparents. Harris was eager to share his knowledge of the rock art in the canyon and told us about the life and traditions of his people in the canyon.

When I spoke with Leon Skyhorse Thomas to plan this trip, he assured me this tour would be the outstanding experience of our trip. In particular he compared CdC to Mesa Verde, telling me that while at MV you simply looked down from above on the ruins, in CdC you got much closer to the ruins. Both in the event... More

Canyon was beautiful with many ruins to see. Our guide grew up in the area, had previously done construction and now was helping give tours, but most information was not historic, just base on childhood memories. If you desire a professional tour...check elsewhere. For two people we paid $150 for the tour $4 entry to the park and $15 fee... More
