Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

A long ride to spend $100+ to only view ruins. While it is a very nifty area, I prefer the Gila Bend Nat'l Park and Bandelier National Park in NM where one can actually climb up in the ruins by oneself and get a better vantage of the history of the ancients in those area. Would recommend a tour of... More

We had a terrific tour of the Canyon. Our guide, Davison was very knowledgeable. We had wanted to photograph the features of the canyon: cliff dwellings, petroglyphs, etc. and Irene made sure Davison met us at 8:00 am rather than 9:00 so as to better capture the light. The only problem was the mosquitos. We should have checked this site... More

Canyon de Chelly is a fascinating place, and you need to get to the bottom of the canyon to really appreciate its history, with the cliff dwellings and the petroglyphs. In terms of natural beauty, de Chelly is not in the same class as its neighbors that we visited on this trip. The tour itself was OK. We went with... More

We took the 3 hour tour with Leone. We felt a little shortchanged because she said she didn't get a chance to pick up a jeep so we were in an enclosed vehicle. We also didn't get to see White House Ruins because we ran out of time. Leone is very knowledgeable and she shared many stories about the Navajo... More

My 14-year-old son and I had a 4-hour private tour of the canyon with Irene, who was nothing short of fabulous. My son is a history and culture buff, and Irene shared many, many stories (the tour was conversational, never like a lecture) about the canyon's ancient past, its role in Navajo history, and a bit about its current residents.... We had the pleasure of touring Canyon de Chelly with Angela and couldn't have asked for a more hospitable, knowledgeable and interesting guide. This is our second jeep tour of the canyon and so much more enjoyable than the first one. We did have a beautiful weather day which made listening to the Navajo traditions and the canyon's history that... More

We had a wonderful 3-hour tour of Canyon de Chelly. Our guide, Irene, was lovely and extremely knowledgeable. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of our life. Would recommend this tour to everyone. Well worth the expense. We are photographers and she directed us to all of the interesting areas to capture and had a story to go... More

Always wanted to visit and finally made it here with my 17 yo daughter and 14 yo son. This was definitely a wonderful place to visit and Canyon De Chelly Tours was a great choice. I booked online the night before for the 3 hour private tour but didn't see that the Navajo Nation observes DST. So we were about... More

We took the private guided morning tour (scheduled 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM) operated by a Navajo company, at the advice of someone on TripAdvisor. We arrived at the appointed meeting place on time and the guide arranging the tours that morning seemed confused. I had to tell him when he was going to put us in a group tour.... More

We had Angela, Leon's niece as our driver and guide. She was very knowledgeable about the canyon's history and was a wealth of information about the Navaho culture. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-hour tour. I strongly recommend that you book with Canyon De Chelly Tours as you will not only learn a great deal, but you will enjoy the process.
