Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

Ask for Francine, who grew up in the canyon, is extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. She answered ALL of the kids' questions, explained the many amazing pictographs, talked about meeting Johnny Depps during his filming of Lone Ranger in the canyon and was extremely welcoming.

We toured the bottom of Canyon de Chelly with AZ Canyon Jeep Tours with Sylvia as the driver/guide. She provided us with a lot of interesting facts about the life and history of her people and was very helpfull in answering our numerous questions. The tour was supposed to last for 3 hours but in reality took closer to 4... More

There were four of us. We set up a private tour for six hours. The landscape was spectacular. The guide 'Zar' was wonderful. knowledgeable and easy to be with. He drove us in an open top jeep, and shared stories about the canyon, wildlife, history, and people that live there. his respect for all things, including us as visitors was... More

I had read about Canyon de Chelly in the Tony Hillerman book, A Thief of Time. I was fascinated by the chance to go see something that would essentially take me back in time. The drive to Chinle (the nearby town) was an adventure in itself. We came from the Four Corners area, and the extreme desert conditions and red... More

We highly recommend taking this tour if you have about three or four hours to spend in the area. We toured in a 4-wheel drive Ram pickup truck. Our driver, Francine, was an excellent and extremely knowledgeable guide. Better than a history book about ancient Native Americans and the more modern Navajos. This is an adventure, driving through the river,... More

On the positive side, it was good to get a sense of the canyon's size and geography, and it was good to see more than just the one archaeological site that's open to visitors without a guide. One of us had seen it several times already. On the negative side, I thought three hours was too long. I started to... More

I've been to Canyon de Chelly several times but viewed it only from the rim. It's spectacular it see no matter what but the jeep tour on the floor is really the best way to hear the history and see so much more. We went with AZ Jeep Tours, were the cheapest at $75 each. Tully was good but we listened... More

Our experience during the 3 hour tour with Canyon de Chelly Tours far exceeded our expectations!! We've been on many tours in the US and foreign countries and this was the BEST. Our guide, Francine, is native Navajo and related experiences she had when growing up and spending weekends with her grandmother who lived in the Canyon. E.g. the time... More

We have been to Canyon de Chelley several times and have hiked into the canyon on one occasion. We decided to go on what we thought would be a first class tour and see the Canyon floor and learn about the history of the canyon and the Navajo people that inhabited it. We paid a premium price of $200 each... More

We opted for the Jeep tour to cover more ground and avoid saddle sores. Chinle is a long way away so fatigue also played into the decision. The "tour" is just that. You don't get to wander off and explore on your own. You are driven around and shown select sites. The guide (Zarzilo in our case) shares bits about... More
