I actually enjoyed this garden more than the rose garden. Just walk over the pedestrian bridge from El Prado to get to it. The garden is pretty big. Very impressive. I took a ton of pictures. Great views of the countryside from the garden as well. Large variety of plants. Very nice, highly recommend!

This was a great stop to walk around while waiting for the bus. It was right beside the stop and was beautiful. There was a great variety of plants and was well kept. If you walked to the back you had a great view from above. Leads right into the rose garden too.

Great garden to visit for a short period of time. Wide assortment of plants and nicely laid out, just across the street from Balboa park.

One of my favorite places in San Diego. Located next to the Rose Garden it is a free escape from city life. The garden offers a variety of plants within a short walking distance of park attractions.

The Desert Garden was difficult to find, even after asking a number of Balboa Park employees (I guess they are only interested in the particular attraction they work at). You definitely want to be on the Park Blvd side of Balboa Park. There is a pedestrian bridge that cross Park Blvd, it’s kind of in between Reuben Fleet Science Center... More

If you arrive too early for the zoo have a look at this garden. In March many cactus had flowers. There are many different varieties and the garden is a nice walk for 20 minutes, at 5 minutes from the zoo parking.

Balboa Park is very famous in San Diego. If you enjoy nature, you will love this beautiful place. The park itself is huge and if you were to see it all, you would need at least a whole day. One of the best US zoos is in the same area, too. If you do not have much time, go straight... More

Excellent desert gardens that are a part of Balboa Park, but located across Park street from the main park. Nice specimens from around the world. Young kids will get board, and there are no identifying signs, but for plant enthusiast, it is an hour well spent. And did I mention that it is free?

Splendid place to visit with the family. It's in the middle of Balboa Park, so it's quite convenient to visit. The garden is actually rather large and can take a while to visit. Really interesting collection of succulents, and other desert annuals.

Great garden clinging to the side of a cliff on the perimeter of Balboa Park. Not to be confused with the Old Cactus Garden on the other side of the park. Awesome views of the area (except for the highway running along the bottom.) Go in the morning so it will be cooler since it doesn't have alot of shady... More
