This is an area that has a decidedly contrived rose garden (connected circles; one with a fountain in the middle) next to a densely packed cacti installation. If the roses are blooming you’ll want to hang around. I walk by here on my way to and from the desert garden, and always manage to get some interesting photos. If you... More

A couple days into my San Diego I had heard about all its military bases and history, toured the USS Midway, cruised past numerous naval ships and crawled through a Soviet sub that once carried two nuclear warheads. I felt ready for nature and headed towards Balboa Park. Caught the #7 at City College station (11th Ave.), then pulled the... More

Just off balboa park is this rose garden. You can walk through quite quickly. Great for taking photographs. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this but if you are near the science museum or natural history museum it's just across the street.

We visited in October and I was surprised to find most of the roses in bloom. As an avid gardener, I appreciated the huge variety, and the pleasant scents all around. Yes I did stop and smell each and every variety. The garden is very well tended, and I did not note any sign of pests or disease. If I... More

This rose garden isn't as big as some of the others that I have visited, but it had some of the healthiest roses I've ever seen. It also had a great variety of roses and was well cared for.

Loved this beautiful display of Roses. Hubby and I got our picture taken here to put on this years Christmas Cards. Someone has really worked to make this display beautiful. If I was close - I would volunteer. Make this a stop if you love plants and Roses!!!

After visiting the San Diego Zoo and waiting for my ride to pick us up (we didn't rent a car) so I decided to take a walk around Balboa Park and headed to the Rose Garden. It's a nice place for a leisurely stroll and a nice place to sit in the shade and relax after all the walking we... More

I live near this garden so frequently walk through it and imagine myself in a magical garden. It is one of my very favorite San Diego spots. Go when you need to be in a calm place. Go when you need some beauty in your life. Go when you need a thinking place. Just go.

It is a nice walk before the opening of the museums, after you visit the desert garden, but March is not the time for roses. The garden is free.
