We have seen a couple of different things here from different levels, and it's a nice theater with very nice people running it. If you're looking for a premiere theater experience, the front orchestra is really the place to be. If you're looking for cheap seats, the center front rows of the balconies are actually not too bad. Often they'll... More

The Mt Everest of theatres. Unless you are seated in the orchestra, you need to know that the seats are EXTREMELY steeply raked, and the rows disappear into the clouds. I was seated next to an aisle at the top of the first little staircase in the balcony, and watched the faces of those arriving there when they looked up... More

We saw "Phantom of the Opera" here. If you want a full meal, eat before you go. There is only one restaurant that we found close by, but we stood in line and finally gave up. So the grandkids had hot dogs from a cart out in front of the theatre. There are nice, healthy snacks inside. Our granddaughter chose... More

We recently attended the Phantom of the Opera. We booked our seats on line at the last minute so seats were limited. Although a seating plan was available the plan did not give the right perspective on far away from the stage the seats would be. Our seats turned out to be two rows from the back and were so... We've seen Phantom multiple times and this version is unique. Sometimes unique can be met with resistance at first, but if the quality is still there it can be a pleasurable experience. We've seen Phantom with Michael Crawford and Davis Gaines and their portrayals were of a more romantic nature. This Phantom is more controlling and physical. The sets are... More

Just saw a beloved opera but in a new, sterile version. What a huge disappointment! Took a friend for their first time and was so disappointed when I talked it up so much and it was nothing as I described. It was simplistic staging, sterile acting, no passion. Couldn't understand the singing. I wasted a lot of money. Don't do... More

Always an event to see at the Civic Theater, musicals such as Frozen, Grease, Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera and many others. Best venue for San Diego specific events such as the "Salute to Teachers", music events such as "Rene Barbera" in recital, "An Evening with Giada de Laurentiis, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and many others. Paid parking is available... More

My wife and I visited the San Diego theater for the first time last week. We saw the award winning "Pippin". Pippin was excellent, as the reviews proclaimed it would be. We parked at the event parking garage next door for $10, which is very reasonable considering the some of the lots that line the streets charge up to $25.... More

This is a nice place to see the musicals that are touring the country. As a season ticket holder to Broadway San Diego, I have seen most of the many of the wonderful musicals that are performed here. If you are just thinking of getting tickets, make sure you get Orchestra Tickets, because they are the best seats to see... More

The Civic is a great place for Musical Theatre. Normally the touring groups are good. Restaurants are in walking distance, but only one at the civic - Downtown Johnny Brown's which serve pub food. Walk a few blocks to 4th, 5th or 6th Ave and you will find some really good restaurants. Bonus-free street parking on Sunday's!
