This beach is wide with beautiful white sand. There's a very relaxed feeling here. Many shops & restaurants available. Parking is a little difficult to find. Overall great beach!

OB, as the locals call it, is likely the quirkiest of the beaches in San Diego. You are apt to see hippies, kids, the dog park, and families here, as well as lots of surfers. There are also some really great cheap eats on the main strip in OB.

OB is in a league of its own. It is not just your typical beach town, it offers a look into a culture that has been trapped in time. There is great food and drinks. There are antique shops and bars. People young and old enjoy OB!

Relaxed. Big waves. Long sand. Cool breeze. Long pier with fishing. Hippies smoking pot. One or two homeless. Surfers. Some bars with great terraces. Inexpensive eateries. Shops selling t-shirts and towels. Very pleasant.

We stayed in Oceanside. The black sand was unusual and the water was cold. It was a good halfway house for us between the attractions in San Diego and Disneyland.

Lots of homeless and drugs present in the early evening. Low rent type housing. The pier would be nice but it was filthy dirty. I left as soon as I could. The plus side is there is a dog beach and a surfer beach. I would never take my family there.

Great waves, great people watching, and wonderful shops within walking distance. The muscular surfing statue is especially welcoming, letting people know that you are in surfing territory! During our visit we saw a few people on the little boogie boards but no surfers. Nice sandy shores with very little debris. Great for barefooting it!

While the Ocean Beach is a wonderful experience, we were drawn to the Historic Pier, which is the longest cement pier on the West Coast of the U.S. After parking our car in the public parking lot, and walking part of the beach, we couldn't help but be drawn to the Pier. There are a couple of small shops on... More

There is nothing wrong with Ocean Beach. It's just that it has a lot of competition here in San Diego County. There are other beaches that have whiter sand or more available parking space, so if you can only hit a couple of beaches while visiting San Diego, skip this one.

Can't wait to come back here! Our trip was short but totally worth it. The entire atmosphere here, whether on the beach or strolling the streets was one of honesty and relaxation. I never felt hurried or in the way, but instead I felt welcome. We both agreed we could just be absorbed into this community :) The beach is... More
