Ok this is a must visit especially for Hodad's but what a dump. Many backpackers which is ok but also lots of closed shops and people who make a hobby of drinking. This place had its glory but it has long faded, too bad. The police were visible which says a lot. Good Hostel deals. Good cheap booze. Nice to... More

Living in San Diego, you kind of forget about all the beaches that are available. There are the richy beaches like Del Mar and La Jolla and then you have the middle of the path like Mission and Pacific beach. Then there is Ocean Beach. This town is famous for it's so called cool vibe and the hippy residents. In... More

Respect the locals, the beach and enjoy the less snooty of beach towns in San Diego. Please pick up your litter and watch out for Trustfund-farians trying to hit you up for change.

I spent a full day watching the dogs romp on Ocean Beach in the OFF LEASH area. Oh how I wish my dog had been with me. The area is pristine, kept clean by owners and many trash bins/plastic bag dispensers. I was so impressed with the interactions of all the dogs - Cesar Milan would be in heaven. The... More

Spent a few nights in OB. Very hippy feel and look. Cute beach town. Lot's of restaurants and shops and very busy into the night. Surprised at all the homeless people, but none of them were begging. The dog beach was fun, but the rest of the area is not as pet friendly as we were led to believe. Dogs... More

I went up Newport Ave & on around a few blocks just checking out houses etc. OB has a fun vibe to it. I didn't walk the pier, although the restaurant towards the end was tempting. The beach areas are large but filled up fast after noon. I enjoyed watching the surfers. There was a handful of homeless folks but... More

We had a lovely time swimming at this beach. The currents were not strong so I felt safe swimming with my son. Beautiful evening. No smoking on the beach. Noticed several "crazy" homeless people, but they seemed harmless. And no more than we encountered everywhere else in SoCal.

This beach was awesome. Had a dog beach for the dogs then on the other side was for families and surfers. Was very relaxing.

Stayed in a rental house three blocks away from the beach. Perfect location! We walked down several times during the week we were there to enjoy the sand and surf. Great little beach community!
