My children LOVE this beach! Every time we visit San Diego we go through the same routine. Circle the Ocean Beach parking lot hoping to find a spot. It is as if we gulls fighting over fish. Once we have secured a spot we then hop the sea wall and head to the tide pools for an hour or so... More

If you're into hippies & mediocre food, then you'll love this place. The walk & view on the pier is nice but otherwise, skip it.

We parked at the beach to go to dinner and walked the beach a bit. It was almost surreal...vans were pulling into the lot with surf boards perched on top with bleached blondes pouring out the side doors slipping into their wet suits and racing out to the surf with boards under arm. It felt like I was watching a... More

This is a great pier for watching the surfers on. A nice little boardwalk leads you up to the pier. The min street is just ok...lined with bars and restaurants. Most noted is probably Hodad's for its open front facade and surfer dude 60's deco. It is a fun place to eat, s evidenced by the little line waiting to... More

We didn't have a dog, but husband was taking a surf lesson here. We noticed that there are many transients, but SDPD patrols, and we felt safe enough. Large parking lot, a restroom, lifeguards, and lots of dogs. There are much nicer beaches in SD, but this one is popular for dog owners because pets run free on the beach.

Sadly, this beach could be nice to visit. It offers a local community a good shore option. But on our recent visit, there were likely as many homeless lining the parameters of the beach as those on the beach. An assortment of characters, likely harmless, overlooked the beach where there were quite a few families. Beach itself was not too... More

This seems to be an area with a lot of college kids and homeless people. I wouldn't have gone by myself. It was too cold to go on the beach itself (for us anyway) but we did go out on the pier a bit. The scenery was nice, if you only look out onto the ocean.

I stayed in this area because of the cheap hostel. There is also cheap drinks and eats. Happy hours. The beach was nice. Lots of homeless in this area. I think most are harmless. Saturday morning is fun to watch all the surfers. Lots of people exercising at the beach. Never know who you'll meet.

We enjoyed walking to the end of the pier, watching the surfers. It was a sunny and windy day - many people also enjoying the weather.

It's sort of a step back in time neighborhood. Laid back and relaxed. Nice beaches, great pubs and pub grub. Very friendly people, kinda like the 60's
