The Great Overland Station in Topeka, Kansas strives to preserve the history of railroad heritage in northeast Kansas. The Great Overland Station is home to a small museum, a childrens play area, a large model train display as well as a gift shop. It is also a popular venue for galas, parties, receptions, etc. There is also a beautiful Veterans... More

Excellent location to visit and take children. Kids love to play in the train simulator and view the huge model train set-up in the former UP station. Very educational and interesting for adults also.

We walked through the station ourselves. There was no tour guide available. The price was low. WE were disappointed that the Harvey Girls Luncheons are only offered sporadically through the year. The website was a little confusing on that point. A very nice model train display that kids may enjoy. But you know trains are mainly for us big kids.

We arrived too late in the day to get inside the building, but the restoration appears to be well-done. On the opposite side of the parking lot was the All Veterans Memorial, with an arrangement of flagpoles with state flags displayed in the order the state was admitted to the Union surrounding a military memorial...VERY nicely done. Not the easiest... More

I have been to business functions there and it was great. Also took the grandson and he really enjoyed himself for over an hour with the things for kids.

Interesting exhibits, especially when they bring in special items. The model train is great. It was a wonderful location for a wedding reception we attended.

While I enjoyed my time at the museum, I want to disclose that it wasn't until I got through the front door that I noticed the "no photographing any artifacts" sign. They were okay with photos of the building, its structures, the architecture, but none of the very interesting things related to railroading. This was almost a deal-breaker for me,... More

The people there were very nice but in all honesty, there isn't a lot to see here. There is a nice train set at the entrance but that's about it in regards to "fun" things. The renovation work they have done is amazing but you can only look at that for so long. The price is a bit much for... More
