On a humid July day we took the boat ride from downtown Boston to George's Island. It was nice change as the air was cooler and less humid out on our trip. The island had a great military fort/prison to visit which was much bigger than I expected and very interesting. I really recommend you give yourself more than the... More

The ferry ride out takes you back centuries in history, and then you can walk around and actually see some great ruins while looking back at the Boston skyline and seeing the planes land and take-off from Logan. Makes for a nice summer day.

Incredible place, steeped in history and a nice open park area. Explore the abandoned prison buildings at your own peril, and don't get lost - beach area at the back end too.

The history of Boston's harbor islands is fascinating. I visited with a group of sailing friends, and the Park Service guide was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time answering our questions.

The Harbor Islands are a great way to get away from the City for a day (or more if you want to camp). They are super unique and Georges is one of the largest, most visited, and coolest.

Among the many places to go and see while in Boston, a day trip out to the Boston Harbor Islands is a good thing to do. George's Island is a popular visit because of historic Fort Warren located there. I spent two summers gong out a couple of times a week as a Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands volunteer.... More

Great old Fort surrounded by tons of water. Easy cruise from Boston by ferry. Try and go during the civil war reenactment, usually early August, lots of historical fun for everyone!

Love the boat ride over. Nice place to walk around. Bring a lunch, lines to purchase food are way to long. Can get crowded with groups of children on tours or day trips. Watch out for Goose droppings, they are everywhere.
