Stopped here during our trip to Asheville because it's a great local shop. My 12 year old (who LOVES books) and I browsed for at least and hour. It was great. They give great recommendations from the staff on books. I could have stayed here all day.

My family, including 7 and 12 year olds, enjoyed browsing through store. They had lots of interesting authors scheduled for readings (unfortunately we were not there for any of them). Interesting books highlighted on book shelves and fun non-book items scattered around the store.

Before Barnes and Nobles, you had to hunt down a real book store. When I was growing up, there was one 2 towns over in a little purple single family style house. The first floor was converted into a bookstore with many different rooms- and within each, new treasures to discover. Malaprop's Bookstore is like that bookstore. It is organized... More

This is a nice bookstore to spend some time in. It might not have the selection of a Barnes and Noble, but it surely has enough selection for most. I enjoyed browsing the aisles. Liked the bookshelf with "banned" books from different areas. Thought it was funny to read why they had been banned. Liked the selection of books covered... More

Portland has Powell's, New York City has the Strand, and Asheville has Malaprop's. It's a great small, non-chain bookstore. Asheville is small business friendly and this lovely bookstore is a great example of that.

Malaprop's is an old fashioned bookstore with wooden floors and a wonderful variety of books and gift items. I especially enjoy the selection of books on Asheville, NC, arts, decorating and fun activities. We go to many, many presentations by not only regional authors but national authors. The programs are excellent.

The few times we've made it to Asheville, we always stop by Malaprops for a browse. They always have an eclectic selection with oddities that I wouldn't find in a big-box location and show lots of support to local and area authors and subjects. I recommend this store to any book lover.

Lovely book store with a cafe attached. I love to roam through book stores, and this one was no different. Lots a great titles, fun items (cards, games, arts and crafts kits, etc.). Right downtown in Asheville --

If you like interesting, independent bookstores with a WIDE range of used books, be sure to visit Malaprop's. I recently discovered Beverley Nichols, an early 20th century British author. Even though Nichols was very prolific, h-His books are not that easy to find, and this store had at least seven in stock. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Asheville residents are very fortunate to have this fine locally-owned bookstore. (Coffee shop in the front is a bonus.) The stock is well-selected, with sections featuring regional authors, bookclub choices, and visiting authors. Staff are helpful.
