When visiting Asheville, NC this place must be on your to do list. Bookstore and associates are outstanding. Pick up a book from the "staff recommendation" section. They wrap a book in brown paper and write a brief description about the story on the wrapping paper...you may like it or really really love it!

It was a very windy and cold day so we decided to duck into this bookstore, and I'm certainly glad we did. I do like to support independent bookstores, and this one is a very nice place to spend some time. Nice selection of books, cards and novelties with a cafe area.

I worked in an independent book store in high school and college - sad but glad because would have spent my entire paycheck . Blown away by the author signings and book clubs. My 13 yr old son found a fab new author for him - amazing asset to the Asheville community

Spent a cool spring afternoon enjoying the unique character of the independent bookstore downtown. Our favorite part was the staff recommendation section titled "Blind Date with a bookseller" where they wrapped up their suggested books in plain brown paper and put only adjectives describing the book on the cover. It was a fun and effective ploy, and succeeded in getting... More

You just feel like you are walking into a Family setting when you visit Malaprops. Good coffee, comfortable chairs, wi-fi, and books! I always find some obscure little books here, and all the newer ones, and they are glad to get you anything they don't have. Quickly, too, And they are so so patient with everyone. I never fail to... This is not the biggest independent bookstore I've ever been to, but I thought it was well curated and displayed. I was tempted by lots of books that were not in my usual areas of interest. It also has that wonderfully cozy bookstore atmosphere that I love, the one where I feel like a world of opportunities is opening up... More

In an era dominated by big boxes and Internet sales, Malaprop's is a refreshing find. Not only is it a surviving independent bookstore but it's simply wonderful. It's iconic Asheville. The size is right, the collection is diverse and well categorized, the layout is inviting . . . and the staff truly cares. And I had one of the most... More

Spent part of a fall afternoon with granddaughter in the children's section (she just plopped down, scoured the shelves and started reading), while I roamed the stacks looking for good books. Found 3 that I couldn't find at B&N at home. Great place to people watch, inside, and on the sidewalk outside.
